Dna Case List

I just wanted to say that this is a wonderfully made section of WS. I love that there are now cold cases being solved through DNA testing. The list will grow!

I've bookmarked this thread and will add any unsolved case with known DNA or UID case with enough remains for DNA testing not already here.

Thank you so much for making this thread and thinking ahead to solving, not just discussing. You are tremendous. :)

Cold case cracked: Arrest in 1993 murder of Toronto single mom
October 22, 2018
UPDATE. RBBM.
"Toronto police announced Monday that Charles Mustard, a 63-year-old Toronto resident, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

Charles Mustard is shown in this 2018 photo.

"Gallant said new forensic testing of DNA evidence seized from Brodkin’s apartment in 1993 was crucial in identifying Mustard as a suspect. He said Mustard has had “prior contact with the police.”

DNA leads to arrest in 1973 Palo Alto cold case

A convicted murderer was arrested Tuesday in the unsolved 1973 killing of a 21-year-old Stanford University graduate. Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office investigators used DNA testing and a public genealogy database, similar to the method used to find accused "Golden State Killer" Joseph James DeAngelo in April, to identify John Arthur Getreu, 74, of Hayward.
Getreu was taken into custody in connection with the death of Leslie Marie Perlov, who was last seen on Feb. 13, 1973, at her workplace in Palo Alto, sheriff's officials said in a press release.
[.....]
Cold-case investigators recently looked deeper into Perlov's case and submitted multiple pieces of evidence for DNA examination, which found "an unknown male DNA profile." That sample was sent this past July to Parabon NanoLab for further evaluation, sheriff's officials said. The Virginia-based DNA technology company developed a profile based on the sample and sent it to a public genetic genealogy database that matched it with Getreu based on the DNA of his relatives. Investigators obtained DNA samples from the 74-year-old man that were sent to the county crime laboratory for further testing, sheriff's officials said.

No thread for Leslie here...

Here's another cold case that was resolved earlier this year, thanks to DNA testing

Kristina Wesselman, 15, raped & murdered, Glen Ellyn, IL, 21 July 1985

Some diligent detectives pursued the case and used DNA evidence to link Michael Jones to her rape and murder.

Here's the link to Kristina Wesselman's thread here at WS

Another cold case making the news recently is that of Angie Housman, who was kidnapped, tortured and left to die near St. Louis, MO. Latest news says LE has submitted evidence to the FBI labs in Quantico, VA.

A retired Stanford University worker has been charged with the murder of a 21-year-old student which took place 45 years ago. John Arthur Getreu, 74, was linked to the murder of Janet Ann Taylor, 21, after detectives investigating the cold case matched his DNA to the victim's clothes. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said this is the third murder Getreu has been linked to and they are continuing to search for more victims. Last November the former carpenter, from Hayward in Alameda County, was charged with the killing of 21-year-old Leslie Perlov in Palo Alto.

Cheri Jo Bates' DNA evidence is possibly the most anticipated result I hope investigators reveal soon. No way are clumps of hair not going to return something viable. I don't even need it to be Zodiac, I just need that case closed. That woman took a chunk of her attacker and that needs to pay off asap.
