DNA Doe Project - General Discussion #3

This could be another case of grave robbing for medical reasons if the remains belonged to Amos who died in 1898. Maybe at some point after his remains were not useful, they were disposed of in the river. 1923 would be late for grave robbing, I think. I looked up the cemetery they were both buried in, and noticed it's close to the Sandusky River. It occurred to me that maybe one of these brothers graves flooded at some point in time and that's how the jawbone ended up in the Scioto River? Floods have definitely disturbed remains before. I'm not sure if that's geographically possible with the rivers. I'm not from Ohio. Amos could well have been buried in a simple wooden casket that deterioted easily. I'm not sure about Jacob. Or it's possible the remains were disturbed by cemetery vandalism at some point in time.

Great news! Another John Doe from Ohio has been identified. Stark Co. John Doe 2001.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Stark County Sheriff Eric Weisburn are holding a news conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheriff's Office to reveal the man's identity.

Stark Co. John Doe 2001 identified as Anthony Bernard Gulley, a father of two, who disappeared in 1994 and whose killer was known to the police

So if he was murdered in 1994, that leaves the question why nobody noticed him between then and 1996, when the field was apparently plowed (at least once). Then when they plowed again in 2001, they discovered the body. Maybe he was on the edge of the field and they just missed it?

I had no idea on RTI having funding for cases that are in namus

Worth noting that if the case is a NamUs case the agency should contact RTI, which runs the NamUs program. They have funding and resources for many NamUs cases.

Also there are projects like Othram's Project 525, which have immediate funding for cases.

Crowdfunding is very powerful but if there are faster ways to fund cases, those avenues should be explored and then we can conserve crowdfunding for cases that truly have no assistance.

Is Project 525 funding available for DNA Doe Project cases?

A quick search for "Funding" on the NamUS site points to the NIJ's Current Funding Opportunities page:

Which takes you to this:
View attachment 572802
The NIJ periodically posts new funding opportunities for research projects. This page is telling you they have not posted new funding opportunities yet for this fiscal year.

This has nothing to do with funding casework.
