I think his closest match was from Columbia and it was a distant relative, other matches were from Europe (I think Spain), so it seems to be a difficult case.

Sad news, the agency in charge of the Swimsuit Boy case has asked for the DDP's involvement to be put on an indefinite hold.

Also, plenty of cases are now in the bioinformatics phase, which means they'll be active cases soon enough.

Also Margaret answered another comment about the slowing down due to the covid on the facebook page:
“We do have a couple cases that were solved months ago but due to travel restrictions the families haven’t been notified or contacted to do confirmation testing. Most agencies want to do this in person, understandably. And we can’t comment on which cases those are, or how the 3 you mention are doing, other than we all keep working on every case. Our labs and our own volunteers have been impacted by the pandemic as well. But with the new cases that just finished sequencing we will likely be actively working on 50 cases by labor day”.
Hopefully, a few announcements coming soon.

I hope that “Mr X” Johnson county John Doe (Texas) will be successfully sequenced and his status will soon turn to “genealogical research in progress”. I have recently read an interesting article about this case, there is a part about the DNA Doe project:
“We were very lucky since DNA Doe Project, which is headed by Colleen Fitzpatrick and Margaret Press in California, receives hundreds of requests from all over the United States. Their service is free, funded by donations, but they can only accept a small fraction of the cases presented by law enforcement.

Through those connections Mr. X’s bones traveled to DNA Solutions in Oklahoma City, which failed to turn up any usable DNA. Mr. X journeyed on to the International Commission on Missing Persons in The Hague, Netherlands.

“They specialize in mass casualties, war crimes and other atrocities occurring worldwide,” Varnon said. “It’s a world-funded program as I understand.”

But, no luck was to be found there so Mr. X detoured to HudsonAlpha Lab in Huntsville, Alabama, where attempts at successful DNA extraction also came up short.

Mr. X’s bones in April moved on to Astrea Forensics in California.

“They specialize in, among other things, DNA extraction form ancient bones,” Varnon said. “Currently, we are awaiting their results.”

Another woman is working on a facial reconstruction of Mr. X, a challenge given the AWOL chunk of his skull“

Does anyone have a suggestion for taking the "identified" cases to the next step? By that, I mean those who appear to have been murdered, should we create new profiles in the Cold Case thread for those who aren't listed?

I haven't kept up with many of these cases, but does it appear LE is pursuing investigations of those who appear to have been murdered?

VERY interesting latest post from DNA Doe Project:

"DDP has a policy of not taking away cases that other organizations or researchers are already working on, particularly when that organization has invested many hours and their own funds on the lab work for the case.
Even before we have a file in GEDmatch, our job starts with helping agencies obtain DNA by shepherding their precious samples through the best labs we can find. We are the only organization that publicly lists every case we are involved with, for full transparency so that collisions don't occur.

Sadly not everyone shares these ethics and standards, which we would love to see adopted industry-wide. Some organizations view this as a highly competitive field, unfortunately, and have become both aggressive and persuasive. This does a disservice to our field and to our humanitarian mission to give every Doe the best shot at getting their name back.

In our view there are, tragically, plenty of John and Jane Does to go around. We hope everyone can share our motivation."

CeCe Moore (of Parabon Nanolabs) just commented on the above DDP post:

"We agree wholeheartedly. We struggle to understand why this happens as well with *so many cases* in need out there. Thank you for this post, Margaret and DDP, and bravo for speaking out. (I wish we could publicly list our cases as well, but since we work on many suspect case, that is not a practice most agencies would feel comfortable with."

And DDP just 'loved' and responded to her comment: "Thanks CeCe Moore and Parabon for helping to set these standards."
