I submitted a potential ID for "Cliff", the man found in Marion, Montana.
Shane M. Anest – The Charley Project
The height and age range seems to match, and Shane was a known drug user, while Cliff was found with a marijuana pipe.

This case received public attention after the dedicated episode on Crime Junkie Podcast, I have seen that a few people submitted potential names for him. At least, it is a developing case now. And according to the spreadsheet update he as well got a new match over 40 cm with a family tree. So, hopefully he will be identified soon either by genealogy or thanks to the tips.

Joan updated spreadsheet with new extended genetic admixture, now it also names countries not only regions.

Some updates:

I'm guessing that the Grundy County JD wasn't one of the dozen or so that have been identified but not announced, as the DDP just reposted the update they found last year on their facebook page recently.

Also Doe Network is suddenly listing the Pillar Point Doe as identified, I wonder if that means we're soon due for an identity announcement.

Tom Green County JD and St. Tammany Parish JD have had small jumps this week, but that seems to be about it.

From DDP's facebook page:

"Exciting news on one of our cases - announcement and details next Tuesday, Oct 20"

They posted this in response to a post from Park County (Colorado) Coroners Office saying this: "We will be hosting a press conference with an update to a Cold Case from 1974 on Tuesday October 20th at 10am (Mountain Daylight Time). We will be streaming it live on Facebook Live and media is invited to attend in person. No general public due to COVID-19 restrictions."

I'm assuming they will be announcing the identification of this Colorado John Doe!:
Park Co John Doe 1974 - DNA Doe Project Cases

On their google spreadsheet it is noted "(Adopted)" on his highest match. I guess his highest match is adopted?

My daughter and I both have a couple people on our GEDmatch lists that have the word “adopted” next to their name. A few are from my maternal side and a few from her fathers side.

I was under the assumption that it meant that HE was adopted at some point, but I may be wrong.

I am so excited to learn his story. Especially knowing that in this case there was an unexpected twist and DDP helped another person to learn their story. I am very glad that his family finally has a closure. After 46 years...
I have found out that Park co John Doe in not on Doe network, neither is the second DDP's Colorado case "Summit Co John Doe (2016)". Doe network lists about 70 unidentified persons in Colorado, but these two Does are missing.

There are a lot of cases that aren't on Doe Network, I've noticed that many after 2010 actually are not on there yet.

I was wondering why some states are more represented among DDP cases, for example, there are 10 cases from each of these states: Ohio, Texas and Michigan and just 2 from Colorado, I hope other LEs will consider working with DDP after the successful stories in their state.

I think it's just up to Doe Network adding them. I was able to find a lot of Colorado cases when adding more to the wikipedia page.

Wow that's a huge surprise! I actually had the littlest hope for her due to her extremely low numbers. I believe she was the lowest around 12.
She was identified because the LE matched the leg with the body in the car pulled out from the Buena Vista lake this July. But indeed with such low matches it would be impossible for DDP to identify her.

I'm really curious now as to what Shirley's family background is like, considering she only had 8 matches on GEDMatch. I wonder if her or her parents were perhaps recent immigrants.

Interestingly, her landlord was the one to report her missing. I wonder if she didn't have any relatives in the area or even the country.

On their site, DDP states they typically initiate a case at the request of LE (not always, but usually). Also, in a FB post on 9/18 they mentioned they try to stay clear of cases that other similar agencies are already devoting resources to.
