I also hope that with the Gedmatch changes more Does will be identified this year and more new cases will be picked.
By the way today is the press conference for one of the cases from 60-es (Pecos co Jane Doe,TX, one of the Othram cases). Hopefully it will open the series of announcements of 2021 of the other cases solved with the assistance of Forensic genealogy.

The biggest roadblock for announcements still seems to be the pandemic, as I'm sure that many LE agencies aren't able to get in contact with next of kin to confirm identities due to safety concerns.

May be it also makes it more complicated for the LEs if a Doe is found in a different state from where their family lives. In many cases Does are not local to the states where they were found. I was wondering if before the pandemic the LEs from a different state went to inform the relatives themselves or they asked their colleagues from the state where family lives.

I watch a lot of First 48, and usually they like to do it themselves unless they're extremely busy, at least from what I've seen.

I have a feeling he's been in extraction for quite a while now, I think someone mentioned that DDP doesn't start posting pending cases now unless the attempts are successful. Fingers crossed for a smooth ID process.

I was thinking the same! Especially looking at their reconstruction picture where Jock holds his hand on Jane’s shoulder, I know it is just a reconstruction, but it has made me feel they were probably a long-term couple.

Oh it is such a bitter sweet feeling! I am so happy they are identified and I am so thrilled we will finally learn their story, but I am always sad to think what happened to them, when they were so young, beautiful and in love.

I have just finished watching the press conference when I read the posts about Sumter couple. An amazing day for forensic genealogy. And Jolaine Hemmy had a very tragic story but as you mentioned in regards to some missing people cases their families never stop looking for them.

Not sure if more details will be released today, but they will speak about Sumter couple at 11 on WLTX news

Wow, the Sumter County Does were Americans. I always thought that likelihood was understated. I mentioned it in the devoted forum less than an hour ago. Jock was from Pennsylvania and Jane from Wisconsin. They met while hitchhiking.

I got this from a segment on WTLX tonight

More details including names will be released tomorrow

From the very beginning, I was inclined to think that they are Americans. I was skeptical to the version that they are Canadians because it was based on a witness's tip. Last year there was another case (Anita Piteau who was identified by Colleen Fitzpatrick and IdentiFinders) the witness said that they met the person and she was Italian and her name was Rosie and she had a husband and a little son, none of this turned out to be true. But I was 100% sure that they were a couple, I can't believe that they probably knew each other just for a short period of time ...

I think there was a rumor floating about that they were an Argentinian couple too.

Yes I believe this rumor is based on likeness one of the Argentinian missing female (Maria Marta Vasquez) has with Sumter Jane Doe. I admit they look very alike to me, but Maria was detained and taken into prison during the military dictatorship in Argentina, there were so many young people detained in Argentina in those years,I am not sure that any of them made it to the USA. The Argentinian history in 1970ies is just insane. I am interested in this topic, I have recently read a novel about it, but it was not very informative
