Do you like the new format for WS?

Tip of the day for my peeps at WS:

I had my eye glass clinic order awesome computer eyeglasses with my prescription in them. The glass itself is a golden shade of yellow for reducing the glare. My eyes are old; however, I've never required vision aids until recently, thus, the computer glasses are strictly used for reading while on my phone, tablet or laptop.

"Without computer eyeglasses, many computer users often end up with blurred vision, eye strain, and headaches — the hallmark symptoms of computer vision syndrome."

Lillibet,

Personally, I like the way your Stephanie sig is formatted. I can tell you how to put the text beside the picture, if you wish, send a PM my way.

eucalyptuz,

I totally agree about the flashing avatars or a lot of moving/jumping emoji or icons used as part of a sig being a nuisance. Almost always skip their posts and scroll until the flashing avatar or a large group of jumping, rolling or hopping emoji sig is no longer visible. Some of the flashing avatars could induce/trigger an epilepsy seizure for those with epilepsy.

"Reflex Epilepsy":
"....exposure to flashing lights at certain intensities or to certain visual patterns can trigger seizures. This condition is known as photosensitive epilepsy."

I used purple font a couple of times when posting in a thread. A poster following the same thread asked me not to use purple for it hurt her eyes trying to read it. It is about being considerate and courteous of one another. I pray no one has been offended by this post. If so, I apologize in advance.

DeDee

Thanks, DeDee. I will take you up on your offer when I return home.

No link, but flashing avatars, etc can also induce migraines in some people.

Yes, it is about being considerate. :)

I logged in from my Android phone for the first time yesterday. There are still ads on there, btw. (I never noticed the ads on here from my laptop on Chrome since I have an 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 installed).

It seems to be working fine except that some links are running off the page (sideways). Can't scroll sideways to see the whole link, either. It does not affect the function at all though. Just wanted to mention it.

I did click away the 'Websleuths News" box on my phone, because it was taking up so much space at every page. However now it is gone from my laptop as well, and I am left with an empty box in between the 'Trending' and 'Trials' boxes. lol Not a big deal but is there a way to set it so I can have it on my laptop, but not on my phone? I looked (on laptop) but could have missed it.

TIA!

I like the new WS format, ok. I'd prefer not to read so much in italics. Reading in italics cause me to squint and my eyes get tired faster. Thanks to Spellbound for suggesting Grazing for IPAD. It helps some with the squinting.

Thanks for your thanks, Bit Analyzer. I am glad that I was able to help a few of us.

Am I the only one who gets automatically logged out after about 15-20 minutes of inactivity? Is there a way to change that? When I go post or want to thank a poster, it's frustrating to have to keep logging in again?

thx

Below your name when you sign-in is a box that says "Remember me?" Make sure you checked that box ... you should not get logged out again. Hope that helps. If not ... sorry, but I don't know, although I recall others having this question on the past.

It logs you out in Tapatalk even if you tell it not to. =/

Is anyone else experiencing pop-up video ads 'in' WS now after the changes? They are very annoying especially if trying to view linked Youtube links? I realize WS needs to pay the bills but is there any way to prevent multi-media ads from auto playing while logged into WS? Its become a real pain following along with sudden lag and ads screaming at you.

The site is lagging horribly today. I can barely load a page or type. it is not functional at all.

I am guessing you are using an iPad. I have the same problem with my iPad. Sometimes by clicking the "remember me" box it will keep you logged in.

If you are not using an iPad and this issue comes up please post about it on this thread.

Thank you,
Tricia

We do not have pop up ads. This comes from visiting other sites. The ads pop up on Websleuths but they were put there by other sites. I'll get our IT guy to give us a better explanation and you can ignore my feeble attempt to explain it to you. :)

I am on a PC using Google Chrome.

Pages load fine but when I try to type a reply, the site freezes up. in the Quick Reply box.

It took me forever to type this. It said something about Shockwave Flash crashed but it still is sluggish.

Ok Now I see what you are saying. I had the same problem last week until i did my computer updates. I had something like 15 upgradees all done at once. Took about 30 minutes.

Here is what Dave our IT guy told me: "Jersey girl mentioned flash crashed. There was a new flash released last week, could be due to the upgrade or lack of upgrade."

Please check this out and come back and post what you found out.

While I was typing this the shockwave crashed. I did not reload the page which would reload the Flash and it makes all the difference in the world.

That's the first time I have had a Flash crash since I did my upgrades.

If you are having shock wave flash problems check and make sure you don't have 2 files. On chrome it's under extensions I think. Sorry for being a bit vague, I'm going on memory, but it can be a very common flash problem, and it's easy to fix. (You just need to disable one) Google it if you need help you will find a lot about it.

Ack, I guess I need Adobe Flash Player to watch the rest of the live streaming of the Moorer's in Heather Elvis' case.

AGH!

Still having a spot of bother believing the Sievers matter is "trending," but the second and third entries at least have varied in the couple of weeks. Not so my Websleuths News section -- after innocently x'ing it out one day last week, it's been just one block of whitespace which could be done away with entirely if this blankness continues. Would also be nice to see breaking news scrolling across top. Main thing missing, really. I really don't follow most trials but that section, which requires steadiness and repetition, there being only a very few essential trials at a given time, has been fine.

Is anyone else now seeing HUGE banner ads about halfway down the page?

I don't mind the smaller ad banner at the top of the page but for several days when I read a thread I run into a banner ad that is almost three inches tall, pretty much halfway down each page.

Yes, La Louve.

This is what is on each page (after last post) on my iPad. Sometimes both left and right sides are the video of the bike rider. The video is VERY annoying! Being on an iPad, I don't know how to give any more info that might be helpful to our tech guy.
