New York couple disappears during vacation in the Dominican Republic

Family and friends are desperately searching for Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle, who left for the island from Newark Liberty International Airport on March 23. They were supposed to return March 27 but never did, according to NBC New York.

The couple had been staying at the all-inclusive Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa resort in the northeast town of Samana but did not check out of their hotel. They never returned their rental car and never made it onto their flight home. Their cellphones are turned off, according to the report.

Why is it one article says they did not check out of their motel and the next said they did? Media never seems to not conflict these days.

If they did check out and the rental car is also missing, perhaps they decided to extend their trip somewhere.

However, the length of time, the phones off and family saying this is not typical is worrisome.

I pray they are all right.

The Trip Advisor bad reviews for the resort have some concerning comments regarding security.

"Relatives told NBC 4 that their car is still parked at Newark Liberty International Airport, where they flew from on March 23."

"Lashay Turner, Moore’s sister, told the broadcaster that the couple rented a car in the Dominican Republic but that there’s no sign of the vehicle."

"Citing a reader, it said that not only had couple’s rental car not been found but that their cellphones were going straight to voicemail.

According to the hotel’s website, it’s an all-inclusive resort with rooms typically running from $176. It’s located on the mid-northeastern coast of the country, which is connected by land to Haiti and sits west of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands."

Very frightening for the family! The above article discusses her hesitation about driving late at night to the airport.

Have I read it right that they all shared a bottle of rum, and then they packed and presumably set off in their car to the airport?

This was my immediate thought, drinking and driving - that's asking for trouble. Hope they're found.

This isn’t looking too good. I mean......driving at night in a 3rd world country....100 miles. What could go wrong?
Praying for them.

i hope they are questioning all the people they came in contact with on their vacation. sounds to me like someone set them up. now that could be anyone from the rental car company to the bartender to the couple they befriended. however, if they have to warn you not to roll your windows down while driving a rental car, that sounds ominous. i suppose if you are threatened with a gun you might roll down that window, especially if you were lost. it royally sucks that these gorgeous places (around the world, not just DR) are being overrun by criminals. sad state of world affairs when you have to be scared for your life to travel.
