Actually, I think we've been having an excellent conversation, one that I've truly enjoyed.

We've all been good about discussing things lately without it getting out of hand, and I love that. I'd hate to see this thread get locked.
I agree. I definately get educated here. I don't have to agree with things or others viewpoints and as much as I get educated, it is my hope that I too can instill something sometimes in others to think about, too. Baby steps.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead, a favorite.

In defense of DK, I asked him a question specifically regarding his/Catholics religious stance on being gay, and he was just answering it. Now, I don't agree with it or even understand it fully, because to me, love is a beautiful thing and MY God would never want to deny me anything that is done out of love. I feel that when one can turn something like LOVE into something bad and sinful, well, that's just creepy to me.

I don't know if you made a typo above, but you said "the church believes 'they' are born gay----but their sexual preference isn't a choice". And said that's like saying you are born a heterosexual but should sleep with women. No, it's not saying that.....being born gay and having no choice in sexual preference is the same thing to me.
and thats what i mean too- didnt sound that way when i reread-
dk was saying the church says its ok if you are born "gay-- but it is a sin if you choose to be with the same sex as a partner- I was saying that i felt that is silly- why would the church accept that you are born gay- then say BUT-- you cant have sex with the same sex- and I dont want the thread closed, it was good conversation taking place- but I was just afraid it was getting a bit back to the likes of the divorce thread with the religious comments- thats all

I figured it was a typo, LOL. I agree, it is silly. It really makes no sense to me at all.

With that kind of logic (about it's okay to be gay, just not have gay sex) you can just take out the word "gay" and insert any other word:

It's okay to play the lottery, just don't ever win.
It's okay to love music, just don't ever listen to it.
It's okay to love to drive, just don't ever buy a car.
It's okay to be a wife beater, just don't beat YOUR wife.
It's okay to laugh at jokes, just don't ever make one.
It's okay to be sad, just don't ever cry.
It's okay to accept gays, just don't accept them fully.

If you're born to be sexually aroused by animals, children, etc...because you TRULY LOVE THEM....then you shouldn't deny it, right? You were born that way, God would want it that way. If you're born aroused by sex with the same gender, you should run with it. Right? Same logic right?

(Hey, you started with the analogies, might as well take it all the way, baby!)

Maybe you should practice your self proclaimed acceptance and tolerance on those with different viewpoints while your at it. Anyone can be accepting of those that see things their way.

I don't think homosexuality equates with beastiality and pedophellia. We've all been discussing consenting adults, DK.

They've only been there 6 months or so, and the wife (a theater director) spent most of that working here in the States. I'm not sure they have an opinion yet.

But they did laugh at themselves thinking of Brisbane as "the sticks" at first. (I can't remember if you have that term. It means, roughly, the Outback.) Of course, Brisbane is a modern city of a couple of million people.

(ETA: Muriel's Wedding is my favorite movie, so all of Queensland is "Porpoise Spit" in my mind.)
It is!!
And would be compared to any of your cities in the states...it is nothing compared to Sydney and Melbourne.
Sydney and Melbourne are always bickering over which one is the best city...the others aren't even in the running lol

Muriel's Wedding was in part filmed right near where I live!
It's been a while since I saw that movie, it was the movie that started Toni Collette's career.
My ex hubby is in Mental Health and used to treat the brother, he was a bit not there..(the story was based on a local politicians family, I forget the name...the whole family were a bit odd!)

:waitasec: :waitasec: That totally confuses me, DK. Being gay isn't a sin, but having "gay sex" is? So, then the church believes that people have a right to choose to be gay only to a certain extent? Like, it's okay to "a little gay"? Seriously, I'm not being rude, I just honestly really do not understand it. If I was gay, (I'm not, not that there's anything wrong with that, LOL--Seinfeld quote) then I could live with my parter and do everything that straight people do with their significant others, but as soon as we hit the bedroom behind closed doors, THEN it becomes a sin?

That's one reason why, although I am a very spiritual person, organized religion both infuriates me and cracks me up. Can't imagine someone dictating what I do in my bed, or on the floor, or on the kitchen table, LOL. Personally, I don't ever think that showing love for another human could even come close to making someone burn in Hell. The key word is showing LOVE. Boggles my mind how some can take something beautiful like showing love for someone that you LOVE, and turn it into a horrible sin worthy of damnation.
And nothing he says is going to make you,, it will only confuse you more lol :p

I don't think you had to add the Seinfeld quote bit Juliane, that is a catch phrase-seems alot of people watched Seinfeld!
My fave Seinfeld quote is SERENITY NOW, Frank Costanza was freakin hilarious :D

Me too.

Irishmist said it best, DK, we are talking about consenting adults.

Obviously my post struck a chord with you, which is quite fascinating to me.

Well, DK, my "self proclaimed acceptance and tolerance on those with different viewpoints" as you so eloquently put it, IS just that. I ACCEPT that you think the way you do. I am TOLERANT that you have differing viewpoints. As I have stated before, you don't have to agree with my viewpoints and opinions just as I don't have to agree with your viewpoints and opinions. I simply don't believe that CONSENTING ADULTS will go to Hell for showing love to one another and harming no one in the process. There's no reason to get your Fruit of the Looms in a bunch over it. The fact that you do think that way is fine with me, and it's no secret that I don't agree with it. It took a long time to give women the right to vote, to free the slaves, along with many other antiquated, biased, self-righteous, hypocritical and shameful things that exist(ed) in the world. Acceptance of people who LOVE people that OTHERS think they shouldn't IS happening, maybe at a snails pace, but it IS happening and I firmly believe that one day in the future, people will be as shocked at how much gays were ostracized and ridiculed, as much as I was shocked when I learned how the slaves were denied their basic human rights, or how women were deemed second class citizens unable to vote. Baby steps.

My God is a loving God, pure and simple, DK. That's all. Love knows no boundaries. Have a pleasant, LOVE-ly evening.:blowkiss: :blowkiss:

Narla, me & my DH have literally spent many a night laughing so hard we were practically choking and splitting our sides watching Seinfeld. Too funny. My brother HATED that show & always said "I don't get that New York humor." What-eva! I still watch the reruns of it, and now my kids crack up at it, too.

Not where I live. It's called the Domestic Partnership Law ( I think ) and you can have your domestic partner on your medical insurance, whether your are straight or gay. Which is how it should be.
When my husband started teaching at the local state university, he had to provide a copy of our marriage certificate before they would include me on his health insurance. So obviously the California State University system does not include domestic partners as part of the health insurance plan.

What's not to get?
It's just humour to me, I don't know anything about NY...other than I've seen in Seinfeld probably LOL
Alot of your comedy's are pretty weak, Seinfeld definitely stood out from the crowd, funny man and a great show.
He wasn't my fave character though, George was.

I don't live in California, but that kind of surprises me because I thought they did have some sort of law for domestic partnership.

I have some friends who aren't "officially" married, but might as well be because they have 2 kids, so I'm not sure why, but they just don't want to make it official because she says that everything is perfect with them and there's no need to have a piece of paper, and he actually wants to get married! Anyway, I'm glad the domestic partnership law is in effect here in my state because the medical insurance covers her and she is a diabetic, so she needs the insurance for her meds & dr visits.

You know what I find IRONIC is that death row inmates can get married, they can even have a religious ceremony, but law abiding gay people can't.
WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?:waitasec:

I was raised to believe gay people were sick and dirty. Then I met my husband (I was 17 he was 19) he was the most amazing person I'd ever met and I still think so. I was stunned when he told me his mum was gay, she was with her partner at the time for about 15 years. Fast forward to now and they are still together and my hubby and I have been married almost 17 years. They love eachother soooo much and cause no one any grief.(ok, maybe your typical MIL stuff but that doesn't count here, lol) I'm very glad I've had the opportunity to have my prejudice be wiped away, I'm ashamed I ever thought to consider what two adults do behind closed doors was ANY of my business.

I couldn't imagine having strangers OR family/friends judging me about how I share my love with someone in such an intimate way.

Peace. Love. Joy.

Jubie
What a sweet, inspiring story.
