I recently checked the messages for Mr. Kyle at the Dr Phil site... there has been some recent activity, and support, as the episode airing Mr. Kyles story has recently been aired oversea's. Cool that his story is getting international attention.... and support and prayers from those who added a message.
Two messages in particular stood out to me. They were both from Indiana residents, one from Indy who watched the show and did not believe Mr. Kyles 'accent' sounded like he was from Indianapolis, but rather somewhere North of Indianapolis. The other, mentioned Mr. Kyle sounded 'exactly' like her brother who now resides in WI, but grew up in NW Indiana. (I've already stated, I suspect Mr. Kyle has memories of visiting the fair as a child, but most likely is from Nothern or NW Indiana). Because of that, and the linquistic who worked with Mr. Kyle for the Dr. Phil show I was wondering what others thoughts were on him having spent so much time in the south, he may have picked up a little bit of a southern accent and it reflecting in his voice? Possibly misleading the linquistic a bit......
I have a friend who is born in raised in the Chicago area, but after having spent 3 years or so in rural Louisiana she started picking up a slight bit of that dialect. She could correct it, when she was called out on it, but otherwise it did reflect in her pronunciation.
thoughts?
