I cannot take credit for the shipmate joke. In reality, Brodsky actually said that to the judge. He said " let me check with my shipmates.."

That letter was potentially a knockout blow. The defense is down for the 10 second count.

They are trying to imply it never happened just because she never told her neighbor about it. Hopefully there are a few jurors who know enough about Domestic Violence to KNOW that the victims often hide the violence out of fear and shame.

In Session The sidebar ends. Prosecutor Koch begins his cross. “You talked to four individuals over at the Carceranos’?” “Correct.” “Your job was to gather basic information as to what had occurred that night?” “Yes.” That ends the cross-examination.

In Session The witness can’t remember what the defendant was wearing at either his interview or Stacy’s. “You were there investigating a death?” “That’s correct.” “You were taught that the first 24 hours were the most important time in any investigation?” “Yes, I’ve heard that.” There is no more redirect and no recross, so the witness is excused.



In Session Before the next witness can testify, the attorneys go to another sidebar.

In Session There is a pause, while the attorneys attempt to locate a transcript of the testimony of Susan Doman. There is an issue of some sort regarding exactly when Mrs. Doman was at the Savio house (and when exactly the defendant may have told her, “Ha, ha, I found the will&#8221.

Trial starts up again with Joseph Steadman, an insurance adjuster who handled a past Savio claim
Steadman would create memos soon after getting a phone call from client. He’s shown one, says it was first time he’d spoken to Drew.
Witness was handling claim and asked Drew Peterson what Savio had died from. He said her death was drug-related and she had been found dead in her bathtub. Call was 3/15/04.
advised me that he is a Bolingbrook IL police officer, and he was working the night of her death and was the first person on the scene.

Steadman asked “Who was first to mention murder?” Defense objects. Sustained.
Drew Peterson said he was not allowed to investigate her death…he is her ex husband, and if she was murdered he would be one of the suspects.
Joel Brodsky’s cross-examination begins
Steadman says Anna Doman was 1st person to call to make claim on policy.
Brodsky: Did Drew Peterson say Savio drowned? Steadman: “I believe he said she drowned.”
Drew was helpful to Steadman and when he called him later on, he told him the case was under investigation and gave him the names of ISP officers, Collins and Falat.

In Session Judge: “You certainly wouldn’t be able to impeach Anna [Doman’s] testimony with something Susan said to the insurance agent. Or vice versa . . . I don’t see the support in my minutes or in the transcript that would identify this as testimony impeaching her so that it would be admissible . . . how would the fact that one person said that to the insurance agent indicate that the other person was being untruthful? . . . I don’t see how this impeaches that testimony . . . the witness is not going to be able to testify to either of those, because they don’t impeach anything.”

In Session Based on the judge’s ruling, the defense will apparently not be calling Joseph Steadman. Judge Burmila calls a brief recess so that the defense team can plan its next move. The judge leaves the bench, and the trial is in recess.

I love it too, katydid23! I think they did not have their experts in from out of town today because they did not think they would get to them. Guess they are not too organized after all.

The defense said their case would go so much smoother than the state's. Okay, they are up to bat. What I want to know is: "Where's the beef?" Where is this great defense they seemed so sure of?

Savio's sons, Tom and Kris, were the beneficiaries of her insurance policy

Insurance adjuster on stand talking about call from Savio's sister after Savio's death, says Savio's sons were beneficiaries..

[ WTH? I thought the judge ruled against admitting that part of the trstimony?]

Steadman says Savio's children were beneficiaries on policy, but couldn't receive insurance benefits directly because they were minors....
