r. Jentzen is standing in middle of courtroom in front of exhibit that depicts someone slipping & falling.

witness “there’s nothing unexpected about this laceration, it’s typical place where an indiv. would sustain injury w/ a fall.”

Jentzen: tub does have contours that could create injuries consistent w/ the ones Savio had.

[ So she fell backwards, hit her head on the side of the tub and then landed inside in a fetal position?]

[ @KaraOko #DrewPeterson in pre-trial hearing he said she most likely suffered a heart attack and swallowed a little water in the tub.]

I would think the pros. is going to questions his prior testimony then.

Savio had a thick head of hair. Given that, Jentzen said blood or transfer tissue to tub surface would be unlikely...

Moving on to Savio's hip injury... Jentzen agrees it's an injury of "significant magnitude."

Jentzen: Savio's head injury could have knocked her out ...

{ what about her thick hair?]

In Session Dr. Jentzen says he has reviewed the trial testimony of prosecution expert Dr. Larry Blum. “Based on your experience and training, is there anything unusual about the position of Ms. Savio’s body in that bathtub?” “None to explain anything else but a fall.” “Do you find the position of Ms. Savio’s body to be unusual, indicating a homicide?” “No. It’s lying on the left side; that’s where all the injuries are. She’s in a kind of fetal position, basically because she is longer than the tub is. There has been some settling; her body has settled somewhat lower into the tub, and there is some compression of the toes. And you can see the lividity pattern, which is the settling of blood after a person dies.”

In Session “I’m going to talk to you about the laceration . . . is there anything unusual about the appearance, the configuration, the orientation of the laceration in this case?” “No, there’s nothing unexpected about this laceration . . . it’s in a typical place where an individual would sustain that injury with a fall.” “A laceration is a tear?” “Correct.” “Do tears make any typical type of sign?” “They could be satellite (?), or triangularly shaped, or horizontal, or vertical . . . depending on where the force is, and how they strike.” “Do you find it unusual in this case?” “Absolutely not. This is a class injury, caused by a fall where there were numerable surfaces where a head could strike.”

In Session The witness is directed to an exhibit that has been projected on a screen. “Is that the scalp wound that Ms. Savio received?” “Yes, it is.” “Did Ms. Savio have a full head of hair?” “Yes, a thick head of hair.” “If someone struck one of the contours of that tub and received that type of a gash, would there be any evidence, any proof of hair or tissue transfers on that tub?” “There certainly be hair, but we wouldn’t expect any blood or other type of transference . . . when there’s impact, there’s a crushing impact on the blood vessels. And individuals with thick hair cover up the laceration, and prevent blood from immediately spattering onto the impact site . . . the wound basically tears, and then it comes together.” “Is there an interval between the time of impact and when you have hemorrhage or bleeding?” “Yes, and the amount of hair would also impede the blood flowing from outside the wound.”

In Session “Now I’d like to talk to you about the examination on the lower right quadrant . . . is this an injury of sufficient magnitude?” “Yes, there was an impact to that area.” “When Ms. Savio struck her head, could that injury have caused loss of consciousness?” “Yes, very definitely.”

Jentzen: Savio's bruising appears recent, anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days old #...

[ can't tell the differrnce between a couple of hours vs. a couple of days old?]

Hi guys! I'm finally back home after a busy week. I have my BFF here now and will be going out for the afternoon. I'll be logged in but not really here to keep my place.

Thanks to all who posted last week and this week to date. I've only had a little time to peruse the last thread. I'm going to do that during verdict watch. I have a feeling it will take some time for a verdict to come in.

I can't wait for the cross of these ME's.

Seems as if her 'thick head of hair' would have cushioned her head if she fell. Not buying this testimony. The prosecutor had better question Jentzen's previous testimony!

Based on color, Jentzen cannot accurately determine age of bruise on Savio's hip, another contrast to pros witness http://t.co/3K3vGwHP

InSession: #drewpeterson witness says he only saw one bruise, not 3, on Savio's hip.

attys approach bench 4 sidebar as witness is asked about bruise on Savio's left breast.

[_ed_gym2: #DrewPeterson: few days old? she saw Nick Pontarelli day before! @InSession]

Good point. lol

sidebar ends, the judge has asked the jury to be removed from the courtroom...

:rollercoaster:

8000 autopsies and still can't tell the difference. Whatever. How much did the defense pay this guy? :moo:

Thought comes to mind. If the tub had water in it, wouldn't it cushion the fall? Why would she have deep bruising?

prosecutors objecting that the bruise color on their slide was different from the bruise color on defense slide.

INTERESTING.

Jentzen: My opinion is Savio died from accidental drowning.

bjlutz: Related to Savio case, Jentzen has reviewed law enforcement reports from scene, Savio medical records, 3 autopsy reports, testimony...

BBM
Is that very careful wording? Could it be called 'accidental drowning' if she was incapacitated and left in a position where she would drown?

judge overrules objection. Court in recess until 11:15 am..

[ of course he did. I wonder what he would have said to the state if they had given slides to the DT that were a different color than the ones they were using?]
