Dumpster Search k-9's hit on- Revisited

On down in the Greta interview that I linked it was stated that the dumpster was a construction dumpster and it was used for that purpose. But, I have to agree with lonetraveler and say that if someone wanted to put some stuff in the dumpster, after dark they could do it and no-one would be the wiser.

COURSEY: Police didn't say that. They did say just three different dogs hit on that exact same dumpster. They emptied the dumpster. They even lifted up the dumpster to make sure nothing was underneath. And, again, they found nothing. end snip

Is it true or not that the dumpster had been emptied days before it was hit on and searched?
ETA I did read lonetraveler's post, but, am not sure that it was a confirmed fact and not just a rumor.

The article says yes it had been emptied days before the search, it was not very full when PCSO climbed inside and started throwing things out. Interesting way to handle searching an area where a cadaver dog hit but far be it for me to question their actions.:innocent:

I know I was appalled by the coverage and the blatant fact that they just jumped in and where stepping all over. The picture taking was odd if they did not find anything there IMO.

I was definatly under the impression they did find something . I have reasoned that it was not in connection to HaLeighs abduction after the fact nothing came of it, but, could be wrong..... on about anything to everything.

After hearing how LE found little Somer's body by following the dumpster, I wonder if LE searched the landfill this dumpster went to??? Maybe analyze the truck that dumped it??? This may have been discussed, I just don't remember . . .

I guess I must be in the minority, again. I was thinking since they found poor little Somer in a landfill, that people were thinking that maybe Haleigh may have been killed the same way Somer was, since the dogs hit on a dumpster. I was thinking serial SP on the loose w/ such similar MO.

ETA: I think it's even more suspicious that the dumpster the dogs hit on had bricks/cinderblocks in it. Maybe the perp checked the dumpster to make sure the body could be put there before Haleigh was taken and the perp grabbed a brick/block to use.

I have to agree with you 100 percent. Careless, wreckless, irresponsible and unprofessional, but I have said this all along about this PD so it comes as no suprise that their professionalism is not top notch, I equate their detective skills to those of Barney Fife.

I have to agree.As i watched this on tv i could not believe the way they were just tossing bags outta the dumpster as if the knew nothing was there. If there was a body in a bag it should have been done with alittle more respect.It made me sick just watching.

Good question. I have listened to so many video's today that I am getting dizzy. In this article dated 2/24/09 I read this: Late Thursday afternoon, investigators went to the neighborhood behind Haleigh Cummings' house and began searching through a construction dumpster.

After 5 p.m., the search moved into the Villas neighborhood, which is just on the other side of a fence from where Ronald and Haleigh Cummings' house is located. It is about a quarter-mile away.

Three different dogs trained to sniff out human remains alerted their handlers to the same spot on the dumpster.

But after four hours of searching, investigators did not find anything in the dumpster pertaining to the case.

First Coast News Erich Spivey asked why the dumpster wasn't fully searched earlier.

"We didn't search over this. In fact, we've searched it in depth. We just never took all the trash out," replied Major Gary Bowling of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/breaking/news-article.aspx?storyid=132315&catid=17

Bowling says they didn't search over anything before, that they just didn't take all the trash out.:waitasec:, so the question I have is when was the dumpster searched to begin with and was it before the 3 dogs hit on it? Because if you look at the pics of the dumpster search there isn't a lot of trash in it.

Good to see new faces, please post bunches. Ever since I watched the Sheriff on Somers case yesterday give his pressor, I have been more discouraged about Haleigh's case, LE's techniques and the searches. It's re-hashed frequent ill feelings for what LE appears to continually be doing.

The dumpster search, the mondex pond search, and possibly others I'm not remembering at the moment. I think they stood by that dumpster, everyone agrees I believe as it just being a weird event all the way around from the moment LE showed up at the dumpster til they left. I'm wondering if their doing this for "reactions" out of certain people to see how and what they will do. The shoe fits. I remember the oddest feelings of that dumpster search. I was yelling at my tv why hadn't they already searched this dumpster.

Then when the dogs were supposedly hitting on it, pay attention to the word "supposedly" here in this sentence. I have learned the dogs don't lie. I don't think they did alert on these dumpsters after all. Then validatng my reasoning as mentioned by posters is the way the search was conducted, jumping on top. Media catching this at night with the big lights, and LE's treatment towards them and others showing up was weird.

Thanks KOOL LOOK i usually just lurk around here occasionally post on the Caylee forum. Just like everyone else here i want justice for Haleigh!! Just waiting for something to break in this case.

The video has Jeff Hardy talking about searching for Haleigh at the landfill. Says they did on Thursday.

It seems they took the trash from Satsuma on Wednesday and they went through it on Thursday.
It is reassuring but it still leaves the possibility that the she wasn't killed immediately and body wasn't in the garbage on Wednesday, or that she wasn't dumped in Satsuma.

They not only just jumped in and stepped on everything but they did it in the dark. Then a back hoe was used to pick up the remaining items from the bottom of the dumpster.

The dumpster should have been picked up and brought to a secure area and a controlled search conducted by CSI. Cadaver dog should have been allowed to sniff the contents so that the alerted item could be found.

LE reported that they did not find a body. Really!

BBM: I find this statement a bit strange. How do you search a dumpster in depth but never take all the trash out of it?

I've administered construction projects all my working career and have leased many construction trash containers. You do not use black plastic bags for the trash and debris. It appeared to me that the locals had sneaked their own trash into this dumpster, probably after hours so they would not be caught doing it. Which also proves to me anyway that people could access the dumpster. Many posters have pointed out that the dumpster was secured by fencing. That will not stop people from accessing the dumpster. They will find a weak place in the fence or make their own. It has also been reported that the dumpster was emptied a couple of days prior to the search. :banghead:

I'm not in the construction business but did have a situation to have a large construction trash container in my front driveway. We were having our patio and pool redone. The stuff in the container was supposed to be "clean" so that the concrete and dirt could be emptied into the river banks (yes we do have rivers in AZ). But darn, for whatever reason, the neighbors added their own junk - broken screens, large black plastic bags of who knows what and even a broken child's bike. So, you are correct, locals do think a dumpster is an invite to fill it with their own castoffs and they do it under the cover of darkness.
Regardless of what LE announced, I want to believe they found something that indicated Haleigh's body had been there recently. What's difficult to believe this, is that I would think once a person has dumped a body in one location they would not want to be back at that scene once LE is involved in an all out search for a child. So your claim that the trash container was emptied a few days before the dogs hit on it, sounds reasonable.
But wouldn't the cops go into action to trace when the contents were emptied and where ultimately?
