So - if they thought her illness was pregnancy related, at what point did they know it was Ebola - before or after Mr Duncan left for the US? If it was after, then I do not see how he can be accused of lying.

Since she was turned away from the hospital, she died without a diagnosis - I wonder at what point they received confirmation that it was Ebola rather than a pregnancy related condition.
It is pretty obvious when the cause of death is Ebola. There is a lot of bleeding. He answered no to a question about being exposed to the virus, that is lying.

Maybe the airport questionnaire asked if he'd been around anyone with ebola and by the time he was at the airport he knew the answer was yes.. JMO

"With an Ebola crisis raging in West Africa, passengers leaving Liberia are being screened for fever and are asked if they have had contact with anyone infected. On the questionnaire obtained by The Associated Press, Thomas Eric Duncan answered `no' to those questions."

Wait... his half-brother just said on CNN.. did he get Ebola here or in Liberia? Wolf said, it's pretty clear he came here with it.

Plus didn't the landlords son die the next day also? He wasn't pregnant.

He sort of made it sound like he got it here, didn't he?

Probably when he looked at her red eyes.

I saw that too earlier today. :eyeroll: The half-brother seems to believe that they actually do some kind of test for Ebola before leaving the country, when really all they do is take the passengers' temperatures and have them fill out a questionnaire.

All it takes is one person to bring this disease here.

Why did the CDC not immediately go to the apartment Duncan was staying in and sanitize it or do what is necessary to rid it of the germs? Isolation in an apartment with the virus is the dumbest idea I have heard of! Why is the CDC not helping this family?

The family who are isolated in the apartment have been told they face criminal charges if they leave the apartment or accept visitors.

However MailOnline reported on Wednesday that three individuals - a man in his twenties with a roll of garbage bags and two women - came and left the apartment.

IIRC The legal court order that says they have stay in the apartment and not receive visitors was issued Wednesday evening. So prior to that time there was nothing legally stopping people from coming and going from the residence.

Now that's following the rules and looking out for others in your society.
Common sense would tell you to stay put shouldn't take a court order unless you just don't care

I wonder WTH they were waiting for?

So, is the moral of the story, that one should never tell a lie to increase their chances of survival? JMO ( I do not know if the woman had been diagnosed......she was not admitted to a hospital. I imagine that he probably did think that she died of Ebola, but he did not know that as a fact. I wish that he had been treated in Africa, but I do not wish him sickness and death because he chose to go to the USA.Reportedly, he was not symptomatic until he had been here for a few days. JMO

There have been several pregnant women who have become ill and been operated on without people realising that the problem was Ebola. This has resulted in doctors and nurses contracting the disease and dying, so it is not unprecedented to get the diagnosis wrong. I suppose if the bleeding is predominantly vaginal then it could be confused with some form of miscarriage.

This is from a website page on Ebola in pregnancy:

Pregnant women might suffer haemorrhage due to various reasons such as placenta previa or abortion, making it difficult to diagnose Ebola in pregnant women.

As I do with every thread that talks about a possible catastrophe or emergency I suggest that those of you who are not prepared, get prepared.

As someone who lived in earthquake country for decades, I always have enough to go through two weeks without services. In this case I would say 3 weeks? Might be a better goal to have.

This includes food, Critter Care, toiletries, and so on.

Before anybody calls me an alarmist, I find it important to remind people to be prepared. There is no area of our world that does not have natural catastrophe, larger than others, and to not be prepared is, simply, silly.

Best,
HC

This is a great point because IF we were all prepared to stay home and not need anything for ( 21 ) days , then what would there be to worry about ? If things get super bad, that's what you do. Although, I cannot imagine it getting that bad .

He is a known liar. I believe nothing he says.

Telling a lie to increase your chances of survival isn't the issue.. It's the putting other innocent people at risk of dying that is the issue..

Again when the son died a day later he knew pregnancy was not the problem.
