Not sure he was technically a 'First Responder' Maybe just one of the deputies watching the apt to make sure they stayed inside. Or one that delivered food to them?

ETA I see the post above. He went in with Health workers.

IIRC 5 deputies served a notice of quarantine at the apartment. I am not sure all of them went in.

If Mr Duncan has received care the first time he went to the ER he might still be alive. He may also have been able to save others by donating blood for the serum as others have. He told staff he came from Liberia but they were either ignorant to what he was saying or didn't want to admit him for lack of insurance. Trust me, it happens. That hospital blew it!
jmo. No. Mr duncan blew it. The hospital can not read minds. They might have known he traveled from Liberia but they had no idea he had contact with the virus and no reason to suspect he had it. A reasonable person would inform the staff of exposure. He said nothing.

What would he do other than that? All clinics and ERs have people in them.
Call the Sherriffs Dept where he works or call the CDC. He obviously has contacts there ... he was just with them at Duncans apartment.

Personally, I would call 911, tell them my symptoms and that I had contact with Mr Duncan. That would give everyone the opportunity to suit up and handle the situation correctly from the get-go. IMO

Was it a deputy? I've seen deputy, I've seen first responder, which implies E.M.T. to me. My CNN has shown no coverage of it.

It was a deputy that went to serve the quarantine notice. If he is infected or even thinks he is infected, he damn well knew better than to walk into a populated place.

I've already read read on Daily Mail where the family is now blaming the hospital for letting him die.

The reporters that The Mail hires over here get right to the source with news and photos first.

Well I do have to admit my ignorance here - to me 'County Deputy' sounds like someone who rides shotgun with the sheriff - or is a government official rather that a healthcare professional.

Is a deputy likely to be someone who rode in the ambulance which picked Mr Duncan up?

In the UK they would be called an Ambulance Man/Woman or Paramedic.

I was just going by the links which were posted on here which suggested the SUV left at the Care Centre belonged to a Deputy.

Hoping he is having an anxiety reaction and not the actual disease.

I wondered the same thing. Anxiety causes extreme bowel and gut issues. Maybe all week he's been a nervous wreck after going into the apartment and he got himself worked up worrying and that triggered some stomach distress . Once he had the stomach distress he thinks'' omg i knew it, i've got it'' and he rushes to er .. ** speculative **

Deputies were accompanying a judge when serving the quarantine papers to Louise and her family. A Deputy here is a police officer.

County Deputy is a Sherriffs Deputy.

Deputies in Texas are Police Officers who work for the County SHeriff. Dallas County and every county in Tx has one Sheriff but the Sheriff himself does little day to day driving around and managing crime , unless its a small unpopulated county. The deputies work under the Sheriff. A county like Dallas probably has 100s of deputies working for it. A smaller county may only have 5 .

He should have been on the contact list, they (they...the health/gov officials) should have been checking on HIM every day to make sure he was fine.

I despise ignorance. This was so unnecessary and thoughtless. I'm new here so I'm just finding my way around. Not sure how to quote every post, BUT someone posted earlier that some dogs contracted Ebola from eating flesh from corpses.

Obviously, this poor dog didn't eat any flesh of a corpse since this woman is still alive. I also am skeptical about these claims.

Almost ZERO human diseases can be transmitted to animals, just like almost ZERO animal diseases can be transmitted to humans.

Forgive me for what may seem like an over-reaction to this news. I am an animal lover who fosters dogs and cats until they can find forever homes, and I've been exposed to a lot of diseases that dogs and cats carry. The worst I've ever gotten from an infected animal was ringworm.

Although unpleasant and uncomfortable, it's treatable with topical meds. I don't mean to diminish the Ebola virus in humans, but killing the dog seems like a knee jerk reaction.

Frisco press conference coming up soon. CDC briefing now (useless imo) on Fox. Split screen showing both. Sorry for skepticism on CDC briefing. "Approx 150 people a day " will be screened at airports. Hopefully they can determine who to screen better than TSA determines who to pat down. IMO, the politically correct nonsense will be the death of us, literally.

ETA: "Screening" = Taking the traveler's temperature.

We can't stop it spreading in Western Europe, because all the borders are open. An infected person from Spain could drive and spread the infection through, say, France, Holland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany etc.

Except through superb medical care and isolation techniques, maybe. And that's patchy. Some countries will cope better than others. Like states in the US, I suppose. It's very worrying.

This attitude is so disturbing to me. He was patient zero, clearly the hospital did not suspect Ebola. He had excellent medical care with serious risk to his caregivers. Heroic measures were taken. Experimental drugs. Ventilator. Dialysis.

He had Ebola! Chances were high that he would not survive it. His family needs to stop - I am also suspect of their agenda.

His son said it was because he was not a American. His fiancee said he should have got the new medicine sooner.
