Ebola outbreak - general thread #3

County Deputy is a Sherriffs Deputy.

Which means that if he is indeed one of the Deputies and he accompanied the judge, they all knew abut the Ebola before they got to the apartment.

I really hope this is just a simple stomach bug or similar, but if it is Ebola then it should be a very salutary lesson to CDC and other state authorities that they really do have to take the infection risk seriously - not just from the individual but from surfaces , soft furnishings etc.

His son said it was because he was not a American. His fiancee said he should have got the new medicine sooner.

I personally don't think they have a leg to stand on with a law suit imo.. They got great free care a house etc.. IMO the citizens of Dallas did more than they should have.. IMO his family needs to be sued for putting the citizens of Dallas at unnecessary risk.. Don't slap your southern hospitality in the face.

I despise ignorance. This was so unnecessary and thoughtless. I'm new here so I'm just finding my way around. Not sure how to quote every post, BUT someone posted earlier that some dogs contracted Ebola from eating flesh from corpses.

Obviously, this poor dog didn't eat any flesh of a corpse since this woman is still alive. I also am skeptical about these claims.

Almost ZERO human diseases can be transmitted to animals, just like almost ZERO animal diseases can be transmitted to humans.

Forgive me for what may seem like an over-reaction to this news. I am an animal lover who fosters dogs and cats until they can find forever homes, and I've been exposed to a lot of diseases that dogs and cats carry. The worst I've ever gotten from an infected animal was ringworm.

Although unpleasant and uncomfortable, it's treatable with topical meds. I don't mean to diminish the Ebola virus in humans, but killing the dog seems like a knee jerk reaction.

:goodpost:

It is more than knee jerk, it is just plain ignorant.

Hoping he is having an anxiety reaction and not the actual disease.

The article says he claims to have had contact with patient zero and then goes on to say that he checked "yes" regarding travel to west Africa..............what????? I doubt that a deputy 1) had direct contact with Duncan and 2) recently traveled in west Africa. Is he delusional? weird JMO

"CDC has assured the Deputy that he could not get Ebola from indirect contact."
Listening to news coverage from Frisco........

Deputy's family said the CDC assured them there is no way he contracted Ebola.

He was in DUncans apartment where his bedding with vomit, etc was still there. I don't think he checked yes that HE traveled to West Africa, he checked yes that he had been exposed to someone that recently traveled to WA. Of course that question is irrelevant given that he was IN Duncans home.

Sad that Duncan passed away. And yes def better to be safe than sorry. Glad they are taking precaution.

He must have just panicked....or the Clinic did. Got his hour of fame, though. JMO

It must be incredibly easy to panic in that situation. I suspect I would be imagining symptoms morning, noon and night until the 21 days was over.

I doubt the deputy has ebola, but I am very glad to see a proper response.

Being Frisco, it doesn't surprise me, and I believe we would all be safe if we could depend on all counties and countries to be as diligent as Frisco is.

I think Spanish authorities were absolute idiots to kill the patient's dog, by the way. Ebola's spread there because of medical safety failures, not dogs.

I don't think the Deputy panicked. I think he was feeling ill, went in to be assessed, answered honestly the questions asked and this clinic handled it appropriately. It's always better in my opinion to err on the side of caution. I do wish he would have called from home however.

I'm sorry, but I don't think walking into a crowded clinic was an appropriate response. If he was sick, since he was exposed, he should have called the CDC.

No, I took Yoda's comment to mean Louise will try to sue. There may be a political reason for JJ to be in town?

There's ALWAYS a reason that JJ shows up and it's never for altruistic purposes. Louise is already making noises about "lack of proper care". You can bet she's planning on suing.
