Do they? Didn't Dr. Brantly work for Samaritan's Purse? As I recall, he was going to fly back to TX for some wedding. His wife and children already flew (couple of days before he got sick) and he was going to follow but got sick.
As far as I can tell nobody was going to quarantine him, and he was going to attend a public event (wedding).
But he got symptoms before he could follow his wife back to US.

When was the wedding?

The hospital activated its emergency response team on Oct. 17 to ensure that all the necessary safety measures are in place to detect a possible Ebola case, protect health care personnel and the public, and respond appropriately should it become necessary, according to the release.

Should anyone present at NMMC with the disease, Sirois said the facility is equipped to provide a temporary quarantine setting until the patient could safely be taken to a CDC-designated location.

According to Wilbur, who on Sunday said Hickox had indicated she did not wish to speak further to the media, his girlfriend had been in Sierra Leone running a 35-bed clinic since September. While there, she supervised close to 40 medical staff members.

Maybe it's me but it looks like she was the boss while there and now she is being told what to do, maybe that is part of the problem. jmo

Also at first I thought Maine was prepared reading the first sentence, then reading the second it appears that id someone there does come down with ebola they will be shipping them out to one of the 4 places. jmo idk

I guess I've missed something. What is MSF? Thanks.

Médecins Sans Frontières. We know the organization by the English translation of its name, Doctors Without Borders.

“It was not like she was going to get anybody sick,” Wilbur said. “Being that my house is miles outside of [Fort Kent] and Northern Maine Medical Center had already been OK’d as a place she could go so there would have been no problems.”

<snip>

Hospital [NMMC] CEO Peter Sirois said late Sunday the review and emergency team activation was in no way connected to Hickox’s plans to travel to Fort Kent and said they were not aware of those plans...

Interesting, so she was not going to lose money either. Crazy that everyone but MSF can see it is the right thing to do.

I'm coming to this thread late so excuse me if this has already been answered. Are these medical professionals saying there's no way she can come down with ebola?

Nobody has said that.

I watched 60 minutes. One thing that jumped out to me was the fact that one of the female nurses is still on 21 day watch period because she also took care of Nina Pham. So are we going to panic & say she exposed the other nurses & 60 Minutes staff? If she wakes up in the morning with a temperature, are we going to go berserk?

In the DFW area, right before 60 Minutes aired, there was a fairly lengthy commercial put out by Dallas Presbyterian Hospital. The hospital is really working the PR spin. I'm not sure it's going to work. I wish they would tell us the status of the doctor who first dismissed Mr. Duncan. Does he still have a job? It would be interesting to know.

In the 45 minute interview with Dr. Gary Weinstein, Janet St. James made it clear that before she interviewed him, he took his temp and it was 97.5. I don't really think she insisted upon it, but she wanted the audience to know that neither she nor Dr. Weinstein took anyone's concerns for granted.

I'm guessing but of course don't know that the same thing happened before this interview.

Not sure how that would work. Presby ER is not staffed by Presby docs--they contract with a company who supplies them with the docs.

Why would the doctor not have a job? Do we fire doctors for misdiagnosis now? First stage of Ebola is very similar to that of the flu.

The ICU nurse's interview was very touching.

I've taken care of an ICU patient for whom heroic measures were taken to save his life. When it didn't happen, it really was "the worst day of our life." One patient I remember very well had the entire unit in sobs. Those nurses give their all and can get very involved, in spite of efforts to distance themselves. In Duncan's case, he didn't have any family who could be there, so they had to become his family in a sense. Pretty brave folks.

Actually, I'm not sure how you health workers can hold up to such stress. My hat is off to all of you!! It takes a special kind of person to repeatedly endure a situation like that.

Actually he/she didn't just make a misdiagnosis...................they made a huge booboo of the worst kind & many lives have been endangered because of it.

The quarantine is for 21 days, meaning she could come down with Ebola at any time within that time frame. If she does, would her civil rights still have been violated?

It's very easy to make a misdiagnosis with Ebola. When it starts, it mimics many other diseases. Unless the doctor is told that the patient had contact with a person who had Ebola, it's very easy to misdiagnose until it reaches the next stage. Mr. Duncan didn't tell them he was in contact with an Ebola victim. It's not clear whether he knew or not, but nurse on 60 minutes claimed he told her his daughter died in childbirth (why daughter? Marthalene Williams was not his daughter) but then denied even that story.
