PoirotryInMotion, I hope I didn't offend you. I could have picked any number of Bible belt states. And yes, I was taught both Genesis and evolution. One in theology class, one in science and it never caused any cognitive dissonance. (Catholic educated for all but my last 2 years of college.)

And it's nice to meet someone who studies the words of the Bible and how they've been translated through the years.

O/T: I always read your name as Pogueitinmotion, but I guess that's because I love the band the Pogues.

It's after Hercule Poirot the detective from the Agatha Christie novels, right???

Ah, necco, no offense taken! Theology is a special interest, and the Bible a special love. (And Seajay nailed it--1/3 of the moniker is after the Agatha Christie character, Poirot, though I've seen people refer to me as PoetryinMotion, and that's not too far off, either. ;D)

Any updates on August or the search?

I have 3 grown sons.....there is a world of difference between how a young teen acts and how an 18 yr. old does. MOO

Thinking of you today, August...and wondering where you are? I pray you're not laying in the brush somewhere only to be found when some other tourist stumbles upon your remains.

The find August FB page asked for anyone that was in that town during the families stay to send pics that include people in them.

This case is a real mystery! So what are the basic possibilities? -
He fell.
He was abducted.
He took off on his own, as something he planned to do.
He took off on his own, spur-of-the moment.

If they could have gotten tracking dogs in right away (maybe they did) that would sure have helped tell us something.
If he took off on his own, spur-of-the moment would be tricky money, clothing, where's he going to stay...
If he took off as a something planned there should be some evidence of the planning... did he have his passport with him when disappeared, money that he normally wouldn't carry, etc. etc...

What would be the point of an international kidnapping if no one knows about it?

Perhaps just local - abduction because of mistaken gender....
once realized, what do they do with him...

Wish again that tracking dogs had been (does anyone know?) sent in right after!

I still think he is somewhere on that mountain. :(

This is so puzzling.

Still hope, though the earlier kidnapping - which took place twenty years ago May 5th - did involve workers for an oil company, an obvious target for a ransom demand.

Still no mention of tracking dogs having been used..... or if they were, what was learned.

Found this blog, with a post about August.

http://killingkillers.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-mysterious-disappearance-of-august.html

I find the reader comments absolutely fascinating. There is one in particular that talks about the evidence in this case- or rather, lack thereof. What little evidence does exist seems to contradict itself. No sign of a struggle, but no sign of a natural accident, no footprints to suggest a fast getaway, no reports of screams, nothing. The suggestion is that some sort of evidence- something of value to the investigation- has probably been missed. I tend to agree. The challenge would be in collecting whatever that may be this late in the game. Whatever may have been there at first, is likely no longer there, having been exposed to the elements and such.

I remain unconvinced he didn't leave on his own. I realize he left money in his hotel room, but he could have done that on purpose. How can his parents be sure that what was left behind was all he had? He could have had much more on him that his parents never even knew about.

Then again, who knows? He was 18 years old. He could have left on his own at any time, in any place and no one could have stopped him. By all accounts he's a sweet, kind, considerate kid. If he left voluntarily, under these circumstances, it was a cruel thing to do. That seems so completely opposite of what little we know of him. It's hard to imagine, frankly. There's something deep running inside of him if he did this on purpose, and on Father's Day, no less.

At this point, a voluntary disappearance is the best case scenario, so a lot of it for me is just hoping that's what's happened.

Having done a "left on my own" at his age, I can tell you from my own experience that your mind plays tricks on you... after a week or so, I began to think and hear in my mind my mother's voice... never did before... but can't tell you how much I suddenly missed her! Couldn't sleep at night! Had to return!
True, that's just me...

I did a "left on my own" at his age too. I agree with you- after a relatively short period of time, I missed my family so much I could hardly function. I never returned home, but I definitely picked up the phone, mended some fences, and re-established regular contact with my family again.

I didn't leave under quite so mysterious circumstances, and yet, the pain my family felt as a result of my actions was unbearable. I still feel bad about it 15 years later, even though to them it's all just water under the bridge now.

I am surprised there has been nothing on this in a few weeks. I still think he is out there in the bush.
