Rather lengthy article published in Sunday Oklahoman but unavailable online till today:

Still no sign of Oklahoma City man missing in Ecuador for more than a month
---
Along with the obvious stress of having a missing family member, the Reigers find themselves in a foreign country where they don't know the language and are relying on a translator to deal with authorities.

“Nothing about the culture is familiar,” [August's aunt] Christi Reiger said. “They are in a hotel. They have the clothes they took to be there for two weeks.”

Family members have spoken glowingly about their dealings with both Ecuadorean government officials and local authorities. Christi Reiger said the search for August Reiger has been a priority for the Ecuadorean government, with public officials making televised pleas for his safe return.

“The people down there have made the stress as little as possible,” she said. “They have just been wonderful to our family.”

Another article, this one from last Friday. No new information, but I was happy to see people are still writing about this case.

Thanks! Was hoping there would be something. My big question is if dogs were brought in while his scent could still be traced. Even if scent went nowhere - it could still tell us if he went off a cliff, or ahead another direction and that could be telling as well..

Can't get into article without subscribing :anguish:

Try putting the link in a different browser. I did read a tip on here in the past few days that if you stop the pg from loading completely you usually can view.

I'm hoping August Reiger will be found safe and check here often for updates. Thanks to all for your posts.

Here is an article about missing men in Latin America and the Caribbean. The case of August Reiger is also mentioned near the end.

Interesting. I didn't have a problem at all. I accessed the link using Chrome, straight from my Google News page. As far as I know, I don't have a subscription either.

August's poor family. I can imagine how difficult it would be to have to leave a country, leaving one of your family members behind, not knowing where they are or what happened to them.

Still no sign of August. What happens to these people who disappear in foreign countries??? Who takes them, where do they go? What do they want with them?

One of the strangest cases I've followed - here one moment, gone the next!
I have a feeling tracking dogs were not used - so we are left with the mystery of did he fall or get trapped someplace? What he abducted?
Considering the amount of time involved before it was noticed he was missing, I think if he fell they would have found him...

Every time I look at the date, I think of you, August! Hoping this is your month to be found safe! Family and friends are in my thoughts as well.

I see in the article ^^ mentioning he might have been kidnapped.
Got to wonder if so, shouldn't there be a ransom demand by now?

Praying for August and his family.
I hope you are found soon August.

Article here, could have some meaning.

http://www.newson6.com/story/23177723/missing-okc-teens-parents-return-second-disappearance-reported-in-ecuador

One thing, and only a possibility here, with August's long hair, is that he was thought to be a female from a distance, and only after they took him away did they realize what they actually had... maybe trying to figure out what to do at this point. The recently lost female could be a sign that they (if there is in fact a "they") could be targeting females...

I'm not sure culturally how long hair is perceived in Ecuador, in the states it is accepted of course, but people can still be confused from a distance.
Just thinking out possibilities here...

This is from the Havana Times, not exactly MSM but it brings up an interesting possibility...kidnapping for organ donation.

It is said a leading member of the opposition to President Correa, was implicated in these kidnappings and organ “business”. But the laws in Latin America were not made for the powerful, and no action has been taken.

There is always at least one photo of a missing person at every bus stop in Quito. Though I never know the person in the photo, I can’t help but imagine the pain their family feels, and to suffer over the tragedy that befalls these young people who end up as unwilling organ donors and lose their lives to this terrible business
