Along with the obvious stress of having a missing family member, the Reigers find themselves in a foreign country where they don't know the language and are relying on a translator to deal with authorities.
“Nothing about the culture is familiar,” [August's aunt] Christi Reiger said. “They are in a hotel. They have the clothes they took to be there for two weeks.”
Family members have spoken glowingly about their dealings with both Ecuadorean government officials and local authorities. Christi Reiger said the search for August Reiger has been a priority for the Ecuadorean government, with public officials making televised pleas for his safe return.
“The people down there have made the stress as little as possible,” she said. “They have just been wonderful to our family.”
Another article, this one from last Friday. No new information, but I was happy to see people are still writing about this case.

Interesting article about US citizens who go missing in other countries, and the lack of resources the US government has to find them. The focus of the article is on a man who vanished while on vacation in Costa Rica. There's brief mention of August as well.

August's poor family. I can imagine how difficult it would be to have to leave a country, leaving one of your family members behind, not knowing where they are or what happened to them.
Still no sign of August. What happens to these people who disappear in foreign countries??? Who takes them, where do they go? What do they want with them?
The teen had a scholarship to OU and would have been starting his first day of classes Monday.
Article here, could have some meaning.

One thing, and only a possibility here, with August's long hair, is that he was thought to be a female from a distance, and only after they took him away did they realize what they actually had... maybe trying to figure out what to do at this point. The recently lost female could be a sign that they (if there is in fact a "they") could be targeting females...
I'm not sure culturally how long hair is perceived in Ecuador, in the states it is accepted of course, but people can still be confused from a distance.
Just thinking out possibilities here...
I wonder if her situation would bring news about August?German tourist appeared disoriented in Montañita
The Ecuadorian government says there have been several credible sightings of August in recent weeks.
It is said a leading member of the opposition to President Correa, was implicated in these kidnappings and organ business. But the laws in Latin America were not made for the powerful, and no action has been taken.
There is always at least one photo of a missing person at every bus stop in Quito. Though I never know the person in the photo, I cant help but imagine the pain their family feels, and to suffer over the tragedy that befalls these young people who end up as unwilling organ donors and lose their lives to this terrible business
