An elderly woman worried about the meth she was smoking. So she took it to her doctor, cops say
The woman was 73. The bag contained methamphetamine.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Barbara Lee Ray went to the Complete Care Family Medicine Associates office in Fort Meade on Nov. 5 and pulled three items from inside her green- and orange-colored handbag: a small clear plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance; a small plastic container also containing a white crystal-like substance; and an empty prescription bottle with the name “Barbara Ray” affixed via prescription label, the arrest affidavit read.

Don’t you hate it when that happens? :p

I guess HIPAA doesn’t apply here?

Unclear from the article - did she know it was meth? I mean, she knew she was smoking something... maybe she thought it was something else?

Pollyanna I am not, I promise, nor am I trying to cut her a break because of her age, but there are some holes in this story IMO. Weird.

Oh dear. I'm speechless.

But then I have read several cases where people would call the police because someone had stolen their illegal drugs. I couldnt understand that either.

Maybe the meth she was smoking has fried her brain for I don't understand why in the heck she would take it to her doctor to be tested. It's sort of sad if she is this messed up on meth at her age or any age for that matter.

So thankful I have never done any illegal drugs...not even pot.

Heck I do good to take my daily vitamin. LOL

I'm not sure if she did know for certain what it was. One thing that made me think she knew is that she was worried about what it was doing to her health.

But, what's with the empty prescription bottle? I have to wonder if someone was taking advantage of her by trying to convince her the drugs were good for her health and selling them to her. I hope LE were able to locate the person selling her the meth.

Maybe she's in the early stages of dementia or has a history of MI?

BBM1 I also remember reading about one such instance where a man was suspicious that his drug dealer might be cheating him by cutting the drugs with something cheaper. So, he took it to the police station and asked them to test it.

BB2 Probably why you are so lucid, my friend. :)

Is there any update to this? Tried googling but stupid E.U laws block most U.S sites.

Not quite as bad but reminds me of the time I let slip to my dr I'd bought diazepam off a friend of a friend. To be fair, my back had gone I couldn't move for the spasms and I had to travel an hour on the bus for two 3 hour exams the next day. He was surprisingly understanding in that eye roll kinda way

I couldn't find any updates on this.

I'm glad your doctor was understanding. I understand what you were going through with the back spasms. I've had back issues for a long time, including spinal stenosis and osteoporosis. In July, I fractured a vertebra in an auto accident and the pain was awful. I couldn't get up to use the bathroom or anything. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days on Valium and Morphine. The 45-min. ride to the rehab center was painful. I can't imagine an hour ride on a bus! At the rehab center I was on my usual pain meds -- the spasms were worst at night on their lumpy beds! But, I found the most useful treatment for easing back spasms is heat.
