Evansville woman is still trying to solve her sister's murder

''Elizabeth Banister never lived anywhere for too long.

During her chaotic childhood she moved from California to Indiana, where she landed in at least seven foster homes. She endured a stint in a therapeutic group home in Fort Wayne as well as brief stays in two Evansville youth homes for girls.

But she hoped all that instability was about to end.

The 18-year-old was her own woman now, and she’d found a place to live at 254-C Washington Ave., in an old house that had been converted to apartments just outside Downtown Evansville.
It wasn’t perfect. At least three other people – including her mother’s former boyfriend and an ex of her own – lived in that small apartment. And depending on the day, several others could dip in and out.

That was certainly the case just after midnight on Jan. 20, 2000. A crowd had gathered to drink, but as the night bled into the early morning, things quieted down.''

''Earlier, a friend loaned Elizabeth some money so she could make a phone call. He hadn’t talked to her since, so he walked into the apartment to check on her. There, he found something that has never been explained.

Elizabeth had been stabbed multiple times in the chest – the fatal slash piercing her aorta.

Evansville police arrived by 1:11 a.m. They couldn’t find the murder weapon, and the three people who were in the apartment at the time of the stabbing said they never saw anyone break in, much less a knife-wielding maniac.

An elderly neighbor claimed he spotted an “African-American male” slip through a window and later sprint from the scene, but no one else reported anything similar, and police never discovered any signs of forced entry.

It was beyond bizarre. How could you not hear a murder in the next room? How could someone kill a young woman in a crowded apartment and just disappear forever? ''

The podcast “Where the Bodies are Buried” released the killers name as William “Clyde” Gibson in an interview with him in which he confessed. Is there anymore information regarding the status of the investigation or if he is to be charged with the murder?
