Elvis' Daughter Upset by ‘Viva Viagra’ Theme

  • #21
Funny story . . . This commercial came on and instead of muting it, I just let it go with hopes that my 2 boys didn't ask questions. After the commercial was over, my oldest, 10 looked at my youngest 7 and hollered "Hey, do you know viagra makes your weenie big?"

It was truly hysterical and I tried not laugh, but I did anyway.

It's my understanding that the son of the late original songwriter (not Elvis) owns the rights.

Well, if that's true they can do whatever they like with it. It's not Elvis' song then.

I don't blame Lisa Marie for being mad....that commercial and the use of the song BLOW!!! (no pun intended) :innocent:

Elvis Presley’s daughter, singer-songwriter Lisa Marie, is outraged to see her dad’s song ‘Viva Las Vegas’ used in a Viagra commercial.

"I find it revolting. Some songs we have no control over and I know we didn't license that one,” Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.

How horrible. I haven't seen very many Viagra commercials I like; but did they have permission to use Elvis' song?

The Elvis estate doesn't own the rights to all the songs he sang...only some of them. I am sure that who ever owns the rights to that particular song gave permission for it to be used and was paid. It is a horrid commercial!

Who ever thought that commercial up is pretty smart because it really grabs attention. I like it because of the music, the nice looking guys, good singing, and how much fun they're having. I don't blame Lisa Marie for being upset since they're using Elvis tunes and changing the words though.

Yes, not only does it grab attention but it also was released around the anniversary of Elvis's death. I personally hate all Viagra commercials....well except the ED commercials about Dave...those crack me up.

Is there a male in AMERICA over age 7 that doesn't know what Viagra is and where to get it? I hardly think the company needs NAME recognition OR that they need to educate their prospective patients as to the "need" for Viagra.

It's ridiculous, IMO. Women have to pay for birth control not covered by insurance, but Viagra is covered? And why are younger and younger men - even under 25 now feeling they "need" (or want) Viagra to enhance performance? I do NOT believe that ED is SO pervasive that we need 10 different kinds of medication. The result is every man is being "sold" the need for "help" - whether they actually need it or not. They are now "competing" and think Viagra gives them an edge somehow.

And I wonder how the WIVES feel? Do they really want hubby to be hopped "up" for a day - or a weekend? Every weekend? Even when THEY might not be feeling equally "interested"? I think LOTS of women are happy with the slower "pace" of things as they get older and like that they and hubby are finally on the same page, so to speak. I think the Viagra is often something a man THINKS he needs - not for ED - but for the "feeling" and "drive" of being 20 again - when his spouse is perfectly content and 100% fulfilled already. My single friends (female) hate Viagra (and Cialis and the others) - they say men on Viagra are "blue rutting" and that they are kind of like a frenzied humping dog for 8 hours. And no, they are NOT interested in a pill that makes men that way for a weekend either. They find it insulting that so many single men seem to totally depend on it - like they turn on their desire with a pill and not real feelings or love.

The Viva Viagra commercial seems tasteless and tacky to ME and I cannot imagine men look at it and then feel compelled to run out and get a script. Those men in the ad sure aren't turning ME on - ick - singing about Viagra, together??? And the worst is that they all appear to speed out of the "band house" together to make speedy use of their Viagra-time. I just think the suggestion they are doing their communal Viagra's together - then singing about it while they wait for it to "kick in" is CREEPY!

My Opinion

You're very right, they certainly don't need name recogniton, at this point.

I imagine they are getting desperate, though, as sales are way down due to the newer ED drugs like Cialis, which have a 36 hour benefit window that Viagra doesn't have.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PH9qAGPULk for those who dont know what on earth this is about.

I am glad I saw it once, just to know what you all are talking about. :D
I agree the guys can sing, maybe they should actually sing about something else.
This was in bad taste.
I do not blame Lisa Marie for being disenchanted. but this is what happens
when you give up the rights to your music.

To FC: I know 2 young women who asked their man to get some V
(the men are much older then the women) and the guys refused.
LOL not all mature men want to be bunny rabits.

The fact that V is covered by insurance while Birth Control pils are not is a vey valid point.
UNFAIR at best.

I don't think it is any worse than some of the ads over the years for feminine products. All tasteless and possibly embarrassing depending on the circumstances when it comes on.

The amount of commercials for all kinds of pills and drugs in the US is insane in itself, really. When I moved here from Europe I was shocked. I'm used to it now, but am still annoyed by the long disclaimers - basically, in order to use any of the advertised drugs you need to be completely healthy or product so-and-so 'may not be for you'. They need to cut all of this carp out already and just do commercials for normal products (yeah, in my dreams! LOL).

It would be nice to see a little humor added, too. There are a few that attempted it (with IMO differing success) but we need more of that. All over Europe advertising companies are literally battling over who does the funniest commercial that year, as there are awards for that etc.. The commercials you see on this website are the norm over there: http://veryfunnyads.com/

This is one of my favorites: http://veryfunnyads.com/ads/24930.html

(Keep in mind, this is the opinion of someone without cable/dish tv.... lol ;)).
