England: Girl, 13, charged with murder and arson after woman found dead in Wellingborough home

A schoolgirl has been charged with murder after the body of a mother-of-three was found following a house fire.

The girl, 13, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also charged with arson with attempt to endanger life.

Police confirmed on Tuesday the younger will appear at Northampton magistrates' court at 10am on Wednesday.

Police and firefighters were called to the house in Newcomen Road shortly after 03:00 GMT following reports of a fire.

The victim was declared dead at the scene at 03:29 GMT.

The force said the girl was due to appear at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

"She was arrested on Monday following the discovery of a body in a house in Newcomen Road, shortly after 3am that morning.

"A forensic post-mortem investigation, which took place today at Leicester Royal Infirmary, gave the preliminary cause of death as being a result of sharp force injury. "Police and firefighters had attended the address after reports came in of a fire at the property. Inside, police officers found Marta’s body and paramedics sadly declared her dead at the scene at 3.29am.

The family of a 43-year-old woman - believed to be Marta Bednarczyk - who was murdered in Wellingborough, have written a moving tribute to the caring woman they describe as “the matriarch of the family”.

Marta was killed following an incident inside an address in Newcomen Road at about 3am on Monday, March 10.

“Marta was the matriarch of our family. She was a very caring woman, a loving mother, and a supportive friend who could never do enough for those she loved.

“She moved from Poland to the UK in 2010 - first to London and then to Wellingborough in 2012, where she worked in a warehouse in order to bring money home for her family.

“She was engaged to her long-term partner Eugene and had a small but tight network of friends and family.

A 13-year-old girl has appeared in court charged with murder and arson.......

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, clutched a teddy throughout the brief hearing at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

She spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth during a four-minute hearing before three magistrates, where the case was sent to the crown court.

In the afternoon hearing at Northampton Crown Court, where the judge and lawyers removed their wigs and gowns, the teenager was allowed to leave the dock and sit next to her lawyer.

She was remanded into secure detention accommodation until her next appearance at the same court on 11 April.

From the timings, firefighters called at 3am, I think we can assume the 13 year old is a relative, either her daughter or step daughter or niece perhaps 😢 A 13 year old stranger wouldnt be in someone's house at that time when the arson was set!
There could be so many situations why this youngster felt the only way was to do this to Marta, I guess it will all come out at the trial. How incredibly sad, Marta sounds like a good woman who was very loved!
I wonder if the girl was told to carry the teddy bear by her defence in an attempt to make her appear sweet and innocent?🥴
