He was leaving a friend's apartment and called one of his sisters for a ride at 5 PM, No updates on the exact clothing he was wearing, he has a red beard, shaved head, 170lbs, and blue eyes. He has mental health issues, his phone is believed to be dead, and his sister doesn't believe he would ever harm himself purposely.

He was to be believed to be walking from Coopersville to Conklin here's the path he would have taken:
Coopersville to Conklin
Random thought, but there is a few bodies of water new that area, and I can't help but think he's in his twenties and maybe in a bad mental state and is walking alone at night and could be looking drunk, Young men in their 20's are commonly found dead in or near bodies of water under mysterious circumstances.

Would love to hear your guy's thoughts on this case

In an update Friday, Aug. 19, the sheriff’s office said video surveillance shows that Johnson was in the 400 block of Danforth Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, and appeared to be heading north.

The Ottawa County Search and Rescue team searched the woods, field and railroad tracks in that area Aug. 17, following previous searches of the area near Deer Creek east and west of Center Street.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office conducted aerial searches with an unmanned aerial vehicle Aug. 15 and 17. Then, with assistance from Michigan State Police aviation, a helicopter search was conducted Aug. 18.

Investigators believe Johnson was disoriented and may have been looking for shelter from the weather. The sheriff’s office is asked for residents to check inside, around and under any outbuildings, camper trailers or vehicles.

Ottawa County Search and Rescue Team on Wednesday searched nearby wooded areas. fields and railroad tracks. using five police tracking dogs. The previous day, the team searched around Deer Creek to the east and west. Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies also used drones in the search. On Thursday, a state police helicopter searched for several hours. [Snip] Police asked residents to check outbuildings, campers, trailers or vehicles stored on their proper for anything suspicious.

I don't really see many places to get into trouble near 400 Danforth. No major water. The railroad tracks look like they are defunct. There are some heavy woods on the side of the road, I guess.

The Michigan State Police is suspending the search for 28-year-old Coopersville resident Erik Johnson who disappeared Saturday, Aug. 13, until authorities get a lead pointing them in the right direction. His family continues searching.

[...]

"Monday night the sheriffs did a drone search of the area, Tuesday they did a boots-on-the-ground search and as well on Wednesday," Mikula said. "Thursday they did a helicopter search of the whole area and there was nothing. There is nothing more the police can do for us until we get a lead. Help us get that."

Mikula said Johnson asked for a ride home from a friend's house in Coopersville at 6:30 p.m. Then couldn't be found thirty minutes later, at 7 p.m., when Johnson's brother, KV, arrived to pick him up.

[...]

KV later created a Facebook group called "Help to bring Erik home!" ...

[...]

... Four days after his disappearance, Johnson's dog named Rosie gave birth to 12 puppies, according to another post to the group.

"He is not in a good state of mind and we are really worried about him." KM wrote in a Facebook post on Aug. 15 about her brother's disappearance. She added that Johnson's cell phone is dead and his wallet was found in his friend's apartment. "We think he was walking home to crockery lake."

So little info I don't know what to think here. They did a search and didn't find him. (Yes, I know that happens all too often.) Was the drainpipe near where he was last seen? Presumably the drainpipe was in use and not, say, at a construction site to be installed? What caused the construction workers to find him? Was he hiding there? Passed out? Suicide? I hope cause and manner of death are released so we can understand. I especially hate that the search failed.

yes i want to know also

It seems that he was in an actual sewage pipe and crawled in it as shelter from the storm that happened on august 13th, the toxicology results have yet to be released, I believe it was an active construction site they just didn't see him because he was farther up the pipe originally and his body eventually floated down the pipe into a place where he could be seen eventually by the construction workers. you would think they would have smelled the smell of decay but I would assume they didn't smell anything because of the sewage.

Heres is a new link describing how he was found:

not sewage pipe, drain pipe. Its nine minutes away from his last sighting, in other words, I can't imagine how you would miss the smell of anything decaying but maybe they thought it was an animal.
