That's sad. I wonder what Knut thinks about him not being around?
They obviously had a special bond.

Residents of Shamattawa in northern Manitoba got a surprise visitor early yesterday evening...a polar bear.
RCMP spoke to several elders in the community who told them that it was the first time anyone in the area remembers seeing one.
The bear didn't cause any damage, merely appeared to drink from the river and then leave town.

Another pic at link.
So now even the polar bears are coming into town to drink, eh?

A woman in Montana, USA, fended off a bear trying to muscle its way into her home by pelting the animal with a large courgette from her garden.
The woman suffered minor scratches and one of her dogs was wounded after tussling with the 200lb bear.
The attack happened just after midnight when the woman let her three dogs into the backyard for a late night 'walk' before she headed to bed, Missoula County Sheriff's Lieutenant Rich Maricelli said.

(Yes, that is the actual zucchini she used.)
:floorlaugh: the first couple of frames when that bear comes racing through the store! omigosh
They never show him buy anything.
He shops like me then. I browse so much that I talk myself out of buying anything. Salespeople hate me.
Yeah, I'm an awful shopper.
ETA - The "patient bear" picture makes me seriously laugh out loud, every time. I just never quits being funny!
It looks to me that the store didn't carry his size shoes. As it usually happens to me, he goes up to customer service for help and there is no one there!
No shoes in his size? Now he's gonna have to go bearfoot! :floorlaugh:
someone stop me!
