Amanda Bynes back on psychiatric hold
Compiled by Tony Hicks thicks@bayareanewsgroup.com
Amanda Bynes was put on a 72-hour psychiatric hold Friday, according to People.com.
Bynes' parents and their lawyer, Tamar Arminak, hatched a plan to deliver the 28-year-old "Hairspray" actress from New York -- where she spent the past week or so displaying bizarre behavior, including alleged attempting shoplifting and sending bizarre tweets accusing her father of molesting her -- to Southern California, where they live.
The plan involved making her believe she was being chauffeured from the airport to a lawyer's office for an appointment, after Bynes flew back to Los Angeles. The website didn't explain what got Bynes on the airplane to begin with.Instead of going to the lawyer's office, Bynes was taken straight to a Pasadena treatment center, where she reportedly remained Monday morning.
Somehow, Sam Lutfi-- Britney Spears' former pal accused by some of taking control of her affairs while she was going through similar psychiatric issues a few years back -- has befriended Bynes and helped get her back to L.A.
Someone needs to freeze her bank accounts immediately. more at link: http://www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_26718541/amanda-bynes-back-psychiatric-hold

Such a tragedy. Hope she doesn't turn out like Lindsey Lohan. Amanda was so cute in "What A Girl Wants".

I think things are a bit more relaxed in regards to news about celebs. Those rags that would not be as acceptable to me regarding the cases we typically discuss at WS can sometimes be a bit better as a source about the comings, goings and doings of celebrities. but that is JMO.

I grabbed the first things I could find. But I don't need those rag mags to tell me about that person. He is wiser and a grifter. Period. He takes advantage of unstable young women. I watched the whole thing with. Brittany Spears and then later, he started honing In others. Dangerous guy.

"Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Amanda feels utterly betrayed and says her relationship with her parents is "destroyed forever." Although she's had a poor relationship with her dad, she had warm feelings for her mom ... until Friday."

"We're told Amanda is in the women's lockdown section of the facility ... where she is showing fits of anger. Doctors are medicating her, but it takes time for the meds to kick in."

I found some better sources to explain who Lufti is, his character and his conduct:

1. CBS - He's been seen squiring around a dazed looking Britney Spears, at times acting as her spokesman, referring to himself as her manager and friend, and insisting all the while that her best interest is his only concern.

Then on Tuesday, accusations in a restraining order cutting him off from the troubled pop star would seem to support at least one theory: that he was a Svengali figure in her life, a shady hanger-on who controlled everything - from doling out her pills to holding the paparazzi's leash.

The restraining order, based on a statement from Spears' mother Lynne, was not the first against Lutfi, who is listed in legal documents as Osama Lutfi. Accusations in at least three prior orders range from obscene messages following a business deal to a neighbor who said he was hounded incessantly and threatened with bodily harm.

In the order against Lutfi, Lynne Spears says her daughter met him in October 2007, and that he "essentially moved into Britney's home and has purported to take control of her life, home and finances." She describes witnessing a situation of tight control and manipulation, with Lutfi calling the shots on her medications, cutting her phone lines, and deciding who's let in to see the pop star. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/who-is-sam-lutfi/

2. People Magazine - A Los Angeles judge threw out Sam Lutfi's entire lawsuit on Thursday after attorneys for Britney Spears and her family argued that he hadn't proven his case after six days of testimony.

Lutfi, 38, a onetime confidante of the singer, sued Britney for unpaid fees, her dad Jamie Spears for allegedly punching him, and mom Lynne Spears for purportedly defaming him in her 2008 book. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20644328,00.html

Anyhow, I think the original sources are no worse than TMZ!!!

But either way, Lufti is a dangerous predator, IMO. And he lost, as you can see from the above, a defamation (libel/slander) suit against the Spears family which he filed because he said just that.

So I think there's a lot of legitimate support for the thought that Amanda's family should be very worried and do whatever they can to keep him far away from Amanda.

"Amanda Bynes is headed for another conservatorship, but we're told it almost certainly will not be at the hands of her parents. Rather, we've learned Amanda's doctors are planning to get the type of conservatorship that can keep her confined and medicated for up to 1 year."

"Sources familiar with Amanda's treatment tell TMZ ... the plan is to get an LPS Hold -- something a judge will grant at the behest of doctors but only if the patient is "gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder or impairment by chronic alcoholism."

"The LPS Hold allows doctors to confine Amanda -- at either the hospital or another secure facility -- and administer meds against her will."

HuffPo decides to take the high road and make recent antics of Amanda Bynes a springing place for conversation about mental health rather than make a spectacle of her.

So, what is the best way to counter this stigma so we don't all turn into insensitive monsters?
It's important to address these issues by being as informed as possible. Much of the stigma of mental health comes from our lack of understanding, but that's fairly easy to combat. "I would love to see general informational topics going out there, to help people understand certain types of behavior that is otherwise stigmatized or misunderstood," Puri said, "So, anything from people who talk to themselves to people who have paranoid delusions or anything else. That would help people to maybe understand, when you see people on the street or in the headlines, what might be happening. So they can draw their own conclusions, but from a more informed place."

Was very upset by a gossip rag I saw at the checkout the other day. Emblased across the front was 'Amanda Bynes - Insane' in big yellow letters. This just adds to the stigma of mental illness here. I wish this chit would stop. I really do.

I was just about to post that she was released. The person that let her go is an effin idiot! Seriously how stupid can u be?

Its less about stupidity than it is legality. People do not realize how very hard it is now to keep someone in a facility against their will.

I get what you are saying but in this case I don't think she's mentally competent to make that decision on her own, she's already going off on Twitter rants again.

Oh I agree. Doesn't matter. They can be slapping feces on their faces and be released. Seriously. The only way they can typically keep a person locked up is if there are direct threats to harm themselves or others. Verbal or actual attempts. Insanity is not enough to keep someone in.

I feel that if Amanda does not get help soon she will end up dead.

this is probably for the best. An objective third party to handle the day to day with parents still exercising control over funds.

I feel for her parents, trying to help their daughter, while trying not to forever alienate her. She may respond better to someone aside from her parents. Too much resentment, anger and water beneath that familial bridge.
