Quite frankly I'd feel comfortable assuming that she did in fact have one if they didn't have a land line. It's so easy to get those family plans now and it's, what, like $10 extra month for a 2nd cell phone?
I assume that she would have one but I was wondering if Rooster might know for sure.

So that could indeed mean that he claimed to have tried to revive Janet, and possibly transferred blood into the car while getting the phone. (I'll reserve my opinion about why the phone was left in the car - as far as I know, you can't recharge a phone while the ignition is off, can you?)

I have a much harder time imagining him leaving his cell phone in the car. I think you can charge it with the ignition off, but it makes so much more sense to charge it in the house considering that they don't have land lines. This is a go-go-gaget kind of guy and I would think he'd have the cell phone clipped to him.

The no land line doesnt seem strange at all to me, like GM said, many are now opting to go with only cell phones since several of the plans now offer free nationwide long distance etc.

I would know the difference in a gunshot wound and a knife wound, but then I have seen gunshot wounds, so have something to base my comparison on.

The acura not being metioned at all does seem a bit strange to me, but then, perhaps it was mentioned on a document we havent seen.

off topic...this idea of paying taxes on a vehicle every year still blows my mind. They get ya'll coming and going.

On that note, Timex you should have seen my face the first time I had to pay a sales tax on a USED vehicle! It's bad enough to buy something new and pay sales tax but on a used vehicle. Give me a break!

We have to pay sales tax on those but to pay it yearly - that we don't have to do! That is a bizarre concept to me.

Anyway, you guys are right about using cells instead of landlines. One of my in-laws does it. What I'd be interested in knowing for sure from anyone that might know is if Janet also had her own cell phone. Also, is it FACT that you can charge a cell phone with the ignition off? If so, I'm gonna' have to run to Radio Shack later to get myself some neat accessories! :)

My assumption would be if they indeed did not use land lines, then they have more than one cell phone. Otherwise, any time one of them was away, the other would not have a phone.

Try living in a state where both apply, personal property & used car tax!

I believe it is a fact. I only charge in our home, but my husband's been known to leave his home charger at work so he can use it during the day and when he gets home, if his battery gets low, he puts his cell on the charger in the car. It's probably just enough to draw off the battery to charge the phone, but not enough to run down the car.

Since most cell phone chargers would plug into where a cigarette lighter would be, I would think they would work without the car being on. I know we can use an air pump from one of those cigarette lighters without turning on the vehicle. (Im talking one of those small types that you use to inflate rafts etc). I would think a cell phone would work about the same way.

Re: MadoG, Diane!

BTW, Sarah et al., does your cigarette lighter work with the ignition
> off?

Yes, but it only gets used for keeping the cell phone charged...

Laptop Car Mount, Notebook Mount, Car Mounting Bracket, Stereing Wheel Mount

THIS PRODUCT IS ONLY FOR USE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF.

Well, I've found a bunch of sites that show that you CAN charge (and use items) with the ignition off. It might vary from car to car, (mine does not allow it), and from phone to phone but I'm sure that Raven had the best.

Jersey..it has more to do with the car than the cell phone. Some car manufactures make it so the cigarette lighter doesnt work unless the car is on...some dont. If the lighter will work without the car being on...then the cell phone can be charged without the car being on.

Well a vehicle around $30K new I'd hope that he could charge his cell phone when the ignition was off!

Interesting that you could run your laptop, etc. That is a piece of info I did not have in life.

Thanks, Timex. I had a Toyota Camry before my current car, and my current car is notches above the Camry, yet neither one had the ability to provide power through the cigarette lighter while the ignition was off. So I guess that means that I can cross Radio Shack off my list of errands tonight. Maybe I need to go to Pep Boys instead. :)

I have a Mercedes, and I cannot charge my cell phone with the ignition off. So I don't think that it really has to do with quality or cost of the car.

hmmm Wonder if it has more to do with American vs import? I have a ford (always have a ford) and have always been able to use the lighter when the ignition was off.

They are our competition and a bunch of :loser: as well!
Oops ... sorry ... yet somehow, I feel like I've missed something. :waitasec: :)

I'm not sure. The high-end Mercedes practically clean your house and walk your dog for you so they might have the ability to do so.

LOL the newer vehicles dont come with a lighter, but they do come with multiple outlets. I think our Expedition has 3 in the front and 3 in the back. The focus has 2 in the front and one or two in the back. Yet not a single cigarette lighter. No ashtrays either.

Wow, how times have changed! My car has the ashtrays but no lighters. Go figure!
