Valerie the sausage dog’s 500-day survival story hits TV screens this long weekend

After surviving alone in the Kangaroo Island wilderness for more than 500 days, runaway dachshund Valerie’s unbelievable story has been immortalised in a new documentary, Dog Gone: The Hunt for Valerie.

The new documentary, ‘Dog Gone: The Hunt for Valerie’, tells the story of this extraordinary saga. Through interviews with Georgia, Joshua, Jared and the locals who rallied behind them, the film brings Valerie’s journey to life.

“It’s incredible how many hearts Valerie’s story has touched and the impact that she has made,” says Georgia.

Catch the doco on Monday, October 6th, at 8pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.

Just checked and it seems that Australian Story is put up on Youtube.
Not sure if it's at the same time it airs on TV.

I usually watch through Iview but you need to make an account for that, it's free but I'm not sure if it's only if you are resident in Australia.

Also there is here Archive - Australian Story
Where you can watch without logging in. Once again not sure if you need to be in Australia to access it.

So far they have a 30 second trailer for the Valerie story.

VIP appearances, books and beer: what Valerie the dachshund is up to after her Kangaroo Island adventure

‘Australia’s bravest sausage dog’, who was lost in the wild for more than 500 days, now has an ambassadorial role, merchandise and an Australian Story episode

World-famous dachshund Valerie, who was lost in the wild for more than 500 days, now has merchandise, an ambassadorial role, a public relations representative and a spot on Australian Story.

Valerie is now official ambassador for dog product company The Paws Room. She did a VIP meet and greet for them, raising money for pet adoption service Pound Paws, according to her PR rep.

Valerie the dachshund, who went missing on Kangaroo Island, is now the ambassador for National Lost Pet Prevention Month

Valerie-themed beer that “celebrates resilience, community spirit, and a love of good beer” has been launched. Her next public outing will be at an Oktoberfest and dachshund celebration with the profits going to Kangala.

And there’s an “unauthorised” book written about her “unforgettable journey”, with another one coming out next year about “Australia’s bravest sausage dog”.

On Monday night, the ABC aired Dog Gone: The Hunt for Valerie, which looks at how locals pulled together to find the runaway (although not all locals felt kindly towards the “feral” dog).
