FBI: Situation remains fluid in Boston, too early to establish cause, motivation behind Boston Marathon blast

Looking at the facts that we do know (where they went off, and at what time/date) can anyone think of any reason why those spots, why that time...etc. I know horrid events like this are hard for "sane" people to ponder but for me anyway it helps...a little to try and figure out the why...
It was designed for maximum injury. The person who planned it must have looked at the times when the biggest number of runners cross the finish line. My friend was still a little further back and she was in a big pack.

Oh **** guys...please say a prayer. My son just told me his best friend was going to Boston today... Friend is eight. I have just tried to contact their family. Chances are its not him but... Now I'm scared as hell.

Dunno about it being a "pro-gun" group but I hope to God it isn't a "militia" type group. Sounds like the explosives and the planning was very small time which has me worried.

If a Saudi National was involved he must be a looney outcast, the Saudi's should have access to be best bomb makers in the world!
No matter who it turns out to be it won't be a shock to me - I'm old enough that if the older lady next door boarded her dog, flew to Boston, and went nuts, I wouldn't be all that shocked, really; surprised, perhaps - but the stars here seem particularly aligned for a militia-type group to have done the deed:

Patriots' Day, Revolutionary War remembrance, as is Boston and its harbor; Tax Day, federal gov't.'s big drag on the pocket income; upcoming 19 April, both the anniversary of Waco and of Oklahoma City, the latter of which was payback for the government's role in the former; the presence of the families of Newtown victims - and some militia groups think that all was staged as a means of control.

A little too aligned, those stars. And yet, no matter, catch and punish the guilty, whomever they may be.

From President Obama's address this evening:

We still do not know who did this or why, and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts.

Now I know why he keeps trying to see the news!

Ok well obviously this is Facebook and we aren't allowed to theorize on a crime.

For the record, the only thing I said a out this profile is they are domestic/20's-30's/male/small cell group given the amature nature of explosives/might be a groups reaction to gun control laws just passed and the motiv was to show citizens that "guns aren't the only things that can kill people".

I'm getting off this now as its becoming more a memorial than intellectual analysis of the possible profiles of the terrorists.

Everyone here is too emotional and politically correct to read different theories on profiles objectively and without personal emotional investment.

In law enforcement and investigations you cannot allow emotion or bias to override the need to solve a crime.

Take care you guys. Make sure to be nice to the mods.

Just a suggestion, if the conversation is not to your liking, you can always step away and come back later - or you can skip over the posts you don't like. Many people feel after a tragedy like this it's appropriate to keep the atmosphere respectful and focused on the victims, as this is first and foremost a victim friendly site.

Also, it's not a great idea to critisize fellow posters here on WS. So you know-- we're not professional criminal profilers or law enforcement exclusively looking to catch a perp right now, we're human beings many of whom have loved ones in the area and at this time we are grateful to have a forum like WS to come together and mourn.

You are not alone in your fear. There were people from over 90 different countries running in the marathon today. People all over the world are scared and horrified.

I didn't mean to imply those visiting here are not scared or horrified.
I apologize.

By American tragedy I mean a tragedy that happened on American soil. Making it American.

FWIW - I also believe this is home-grown terrorism. I personally will be surprised if this turns out to be an Al-Qaeda type of terrorism.

This is a photo of one of the blast sites. The other is awash in blood. :(

Please see my post about Google street view, and notice, the stump of that drop box.

This is possibly where devices were planted.

I won't post the picture I saw but there was a man being pushed in a wheel chair with NO legs and very little bone below the knee. What was left was shredded. I can't imagine his legs can be saved. So terrible!

I think that is the man I saw, very little bone. Shocking! I could not imagine it being reattached because I think what was blown off was mangled beyond repair.
