This photo shows the finish line and location of the first bomb at 3:36:30 into the race, approximately 33 minutes before the explosion. At the bottom of the picture, you'll see Krystle Campbell and her friend Karen Rand. This is the nearest before-blast photo I've seen.

Looking at the density of the crowd and the time it would take to move through it, I'm inclined to believe that at this point the bomb is already planted, or perhaps the bomber is in the scene. I expect other victims are in the scene as well though I've not yet identified them.

One federal law enforcement source told CNN's Deborah Feyerick the devices contained "low-velocity improvised explosive mixture -- perhaps flash-powder or sugar chlorate mixture likely packed with nails or shrapnel."

An explosives expert told CNN the yellowness of the flame probably came from carbon or some organic fuel such as sugar that contains it.

A senior U.S. counterterrorism investigator told CNN that pressure cooker bombs have also been a signature of extreme right-wing individuals in the United States who he said tend to revel in building homemade bombs.

Would dogs even be able to sniff out something like that? Doesn't sound like the bomb involves actual explosives.

How long was it between the picture being taken (the flickr one showing Krystel, Karen and the possible Asian victim) and the bomb going off? (Sorry if it's already been said). There seems to be a lot of movement in that area so remember people will have maybe changed positions, such as the woman in the brown jacket moving into the gap behind Krystel.

Hearing all about this makes me feel so physically sick. These poor people I just can't get my head around this at all. The first image I saw of the bombing reports was Jeff in the wheelchair but it was cropped to not show his injuries. I then stumbled on a report that showed the rest of the photo and I just can't get the image out of my head. Whoever created those bombs wanted maximum damage to those poor people, they had every intention to just rip their bodies apart.

How the h*ll did some of these poor people survive, what wonderful people that helped save their lives. In all that destruction, fear and pain there were people who just saved lives even when it was so dangerous and upsetting to do so. Real heroes there that day.

I think the counts would have been higher if there weren't already many medical personnel at the scene. I saw one photo and there were at least 8-10 physicians in the crowd helping. They had expert help immediately and hospitals near by. Good job to all rescue workers and citizens that helped also!

No doubt. Blood loss can kill quickly without intervention.

Daily mail is identifying two of the surviving victims. They identify one as Nicole Gross, and the other as her sister (who lost a leg). ETA: Sister identifed by Daily Mail as Erika Brannock

Daily Mail is identifying one of the surviving Chinese students as Zhou Danling. She has a brain injury and her Mother is trying to come from China to be with her. CNN or Fox news reported earlier that of the three students 2 female and one male. One female is deceased, one survived, and the other was unharmed.

If the bomb was triggered by a kitchen type "egg-timer" how much time is that in advance to set? One hour maximum? 30 minutes and then set the bag down someplace and get out? Also, if it's the same perp, the timers were set to detonate almost at the same time. How could he get the bags down and set to go off 15 seconds from each other so I have to think two people are involved. JMO

Certainly could be, but not necessarily. I have not heard what kind of timer was used, but most of the egg timers I see now are digital, with an audible alarm. If he set them both for the same delay, then set one bag down, and walked 550 feet and set the other down, you would expect them to go off about as they did. Time and pictures will tell.

I hate to say this, but if you look at the head in that picture (the one believed to not be from the event), and the shape of the hairline, I do believe it is Martin. I am crying thinking about it and wish I could erase it from my mind, but I can't. :'(

If you look at the hairline of who may be the grad student from China, I think it may be him in that photo:

Follow the scissor lift to the bottom. The guy is facing the camera, has glasses, beard and is wearing a plaid shirt or jacket. He's near a white haired man.

Does anyone see a resemblance to this guy?

Woman says Sgt. Tyler helped carry her to safety.

the female patient named Victoria is currently at Tufts Medical Center, recovering from serious shrapnel injuries

She described the 'mystery man' as a veteran of Afghanistan named Sgt. Tyler. "One of the things he did to calm her down was to show her his own shrapnel injury he suffered while in Afghanistan,"

It was you're correct. There were three Chinese students there.

One female is deceased, her family doesn't want to release her name.

One female is injured and is in a coma (reported by Daily Mail, link backthread) her Mother is trying to get from China to US to see her.

The other student was reported by MSM as unharmed.

The bag has got to be big enough to hold a pressure cooker... so it would be awfully tight if not impossible to fit in a college sized backpack. An athletic style 2 handle duffle bag or tote?
