Thank you, @PayrollNerd and @JaneEyre .

I'm glad you both found the thread you needed.

We'll have to brave the car line this weekend. Thank goodness, it's only about 10 minutes away.

Finished a few masks today for whoever will be my treatment nurse this week. I need to find another masculine print or two. It’s a different person each week from the same pool of wonderful people. I’m just about out of bias tape. Now to make some coordinating fabric ties.

My oldest daughter has noticed people posting on FB asking for masks. Apparently, there’s a group of medical people here (in FL) headed up to help in NY.
Denim? Gender neutral.

Denim? Gender neutral.
I was desperate for just plain fabric for men so I spent quite a bit of time on Walmart.com last week and finally found 15 yards of navy cotton for $18 and about 8 yards of gray for about $12. The navy has arrived. But I had difficulty finding non-woven interfacing online except for pick-up at Joann’s.

I think denim would be difficult to breathe thru personally. It’s already upper 80s here in FL. I think it would be too hot which would discourage people from wearing them. I found some cotton in greens and browns so I made 2 in that print.

See if you can order ahead so you don’t have to wait as long.

Whoa. That’s a lot of masks! Do you have a big order? I’m just making them as I can with what I have on hand. My friend from TN called when she crossed the FL line. She was coming to visit her sister who ended up passing away Sun. I’m not taking orders, just word of mouth to friends, and the cancer teams that care for me. I do have a close friend who is donating some to me but is also selling them on the side.

No, but two things. First, it was cheaper to get the 15 yards of this than to get 6 of something else at regular price. Second, we’ve all been sharing our fabric in this community and almost no one had plain colors for men. Now I do, and have plenty to share with other mask makers in my area.

I got a message this morning from a friend in the medical field asking for as many as I can provide for patients, as they are no longer allowed to give them paper masks.

I forgot to mention that the interfacing was on sale for $.69 a yard at Joann. So if you need some, grab it now. Normally interfacing is at least 5X that.

That’s interesting. The Olson mask ranks highly for protection. The one thing it’s lacking, I have added in my pattern tweak.
Yes that “Olsen” version, I added a channel for a nose piece. Everyone I’ve given them to, I've told them how they can make a removable nose piece. I’m hoping to get a few more made tomorrow. My best friend has a boyfriend who is a postman. He came down with symptoms today. The clinic told him to isolate. Waiting to find out if they actually tested him. Now my friend, who is a payroll manager, may have to isolate. Postman & Payroll do not stop for anything so... this will be interesting.

I made sure my brother and his family have 10 of those. Eight have the nose piece. For now, they need more than we do because 3 of them are still leaving the house to work. That said, I also plan to provide multiple masks for my co-workers by May 1st, too, when we may go back. I just ordered more elastic. It won't be here until June, but it looks like I may still be making them then. I already have more coming in May.

Postal workers are so exposed. Hope he has mild symptoms.

Came home to find masks - I got the plain white but Star Wars and hot pink were in the mix

The information in the video comes from the Centers for Disease Control, which made a handy infographic describing the differences between the N95 respirators and surgical masks. It’s also released a guide on cloth face coverings, including how to make one at home.

Making masks has been one way the public has been able to help the fight against the spread of COVID-19. One Pennsylvania woman has already made thousands for healthcare workers.

One thing to remember with masks is to always take them off properly. You need to remember that the front could be contaminated, so you don’t want to touch it. Instead, remove the mask through the ties or loops that kept it on your face. Also be sure to wash your hands immediately after taking the mask off. You can see some other tips on the best way to wear and care for homemade masks here.
Coronavirus face coverings: What’s the difference between N95s, surgical masks and homemade ones?

Wish you lived closer .... we could use your talents here! They are so pretty, Payroll. If we have to wear a faee mask, these brighten the depressing mood a lot. ❤️

Fit testing of cloth masks. The second video AT 13:00 Sew the ties about 3/4 inch DOWN from each corner (UP from the bottom corners) to get a better fit on the masks.

Fit testing of cloth masks. I cannot find the one about having the ties sewn about 3/4 inch DOWN from each corner (UP from the bottom corners) to get a better fit on the rectangle pleated ones. I've watched too many.
Here is the link to the University of Florida mask pattern that she actually assembles at the end.

Mask Alternative » Department of Anesthesiology » College of Medicine » University of Florida

ETA: They have a patent pending on this pattern and I can see how it's a great design for that specific material they call for. The seams are outward and would ravel if cotton. If you have a serger, I guess you could finish cotton seams that way. I think when washed they would still have little threads raveling.
