I use the one piece tie (48”) or one piece elastic (22”). Put my hair in a ponytail, tie it where I want it and if I want to, take down the ponytail.

What, wear one if you can't keep your distance???

I wear the blasted hot thing because OTHER PEOPLE can't (or won't or just don't) keep their distance!!!

Sorry to shout at you all, I expect you know just what I'm saying.

Gonna keep sewing as well!!!

Exactly. Your rant is going through my mind today.

DH and I took our daily walk yesterday. We were resting at the top of a hill. and this older gentleman walked in front of us with his dog - no mask - and made some comment about "stay safe".

[SARCASM]I'm so glad he cared enough about us (and others, I'm sure!) to walk right in front of us and not wear a mask.[/SARCASM]

I've scanned some past posts, and I didn't see the mask pattern that I found on the web posted here.

The link: Free Face Mask Pattern and Tutorial - updated!

This mask has darts and measurements for the nose and chin. The pattern is shown in centimeters, so you'll need to convert it to inches.

I used 1 cm = .39 inches.

Once I did the conversions, it was pretty easy to use.

Maybe you've seen it already, but I thought I'd post it.

Well this would be great! I wear the Smiles Mask sometimes. I get a lot of interest from the clear part. It’s too hot to wear tho here in SWFL.

Swiss researchers working on transparent face mask for medical workers, mass market

“Looking online you can find prototypes of masks that are partly transparent, but they’re just normal masks with some of the fabric replaced by clear plastic,” Pelet said in the written statement. The mask the group developed should function the way medical masks do, with pores in the material that are small enough to allow air to pass through while blocking out viruses and bacteria.

I wore my BC/BS mask for my last session of Physical Therapy this morning. My therapist really liked my mask and said that it looks like it provides excellent protection. I asked her if she uses a new mask every day, and she said that she reuses hers several times. I told her that DH and I are also reusing our CVS masks and that we clean them on both sides with Clorox wipes after use. We still have a good supply of the procedural masks but will probably start using the washable BC/BS masks more frequently. At this juncture, there is no way to know how long we will have to wear masks for protection against COVID-19.

We're going to need masks for a long, long, long time. I hope it becomes part of the American culture permanently. We should all care enough for our fellow citizens to make the effort to stop the spread. JMO

A volunteer 'sewing squad' distributed more than 55,000 masks to vulnerable communities in 3 months. They're not slowing down - CNN
Snips:

Soon, others began volunteering and Wong launched a Facebook group called the "Auntie Sewing Squad." It started with just 26 people. Now, it has more than 800 sewers across the country.
So far, the group has distributed more than 55,000 masks to communities in need. Wong is proud of the group. But she is also frustrated.
"I do refer to our group as a 'sweatshop' because I don't want to romanticize it. While we are enjoying each other's company in this very strange time in history, we shouldn't have to be doing this work. This is absolutely the government's job. We should not have had to turn our homes upside down into sweatshops and pull the sheets off our beds to make masks."

"Now we are leading the whole nation in terms of cases now," Hatathlie said. "The Auntie Squad has really given us so much. Not just the masks, but we received sewing machines, diapers, baby wipes, laundry supplies and sanitizers."

According to Arana, these aunties aren't stopping any time soon.

"I am in awe of the labor, all of the labor that everyone has given," she said. "I mean it's an incredible amount of time and effort that people have shared. But it's nothing compared to what the communities who are bearing the brunt of the pandemic are going through."

Opinion | Do masks protect people from coronavirus? Not if you wear them like this.

We're sad that we need to say this, but please don't wear your mask like this.

Right now, scientists are racing to develop a vaccine to halt the spread of COVID-19, medical teams are working around the clock to save people's lives, and businesses are installing things like thermal scanners at entrances and plexiglass at restaurants to protect customers and employees. But even as some Americans move heaven and earth to keep us safe, many others have let their guard — and their masks — down...

Spent 3 hours sewing masks while listening to my ‘hood set off bombs. A friend has shingles so I needed to get her a few more masks assembled. She’s from Chicago so Cubs & Bears masks!

When I called to schedule an appointment with my PCP last week (anxiety headache), I was instructed to wear a cloth mask. This is also noted on the medical group's website. The CVS procedural masks that DH and I had prior to receiving cloth masks from BC/BS are not cloth. Not sure what I would have done if we hadn't gotten the COVID-19 "gift" packets from Blue Cross. When I've been out and about in public, I notice many people wearing the CVS-type masks that are obviously not cloth. Should I assume that cloth masks are much more protective than procedural masks that are frequently worn by medical professionals?

DH is going to take his BC/BS mask to the office to wear when he is working two days a week beginning tomorrow. We have also considered ordering University of Michigan masks or Detroit Red Wings masks if it looks like mask-wearing is going to last for a lengthy period of time.

I wish I knew the answer. I think I've decided for myself that my mask with the filter, is probably better than most surgical masks people are wearing. It might be something to ask on the main thread where you can get more input.

If you're purchasing masks, consider shopping here:

UNICEF Market | Face masks

Haven't ordered masks, but am happy with other purchases.

Those look decent except I can’t tell if they have a nose wire.

The cloth masks that DH and I got from BC/BS do not have nose wire. Instead, they have a flap inside that you pull up across your nose. It works quite well making it possible for me to wear my glasses without them fogging up when I'm in a public space where I need to have my glasses on and wear a mask.

That sounds interesting. I'd like to see a photo so I understand how it works.

My nose wire keeps my glasses from fogging up. But not all nose wires are created equal. I need to order some more high quality ones soon.
