20,000 houses evacuated.

400-acre wildfire fueled by winds, low humidity and high temperatures was burning Tuesday afternoon near a high school in San Diego County, prompting evacuations.

The fire broke out at about 10:45 a.m. near Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch, a community east of Rancho Santa Fe, said Lee Swanson, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman.

Fire officials: At this time, the fire seems to have died down...the largest part of the emergency has passed #BernardoFire

Well that is good news!

Glad the fire is dying down but that happened earlier and the winds started up again.

Just listened to the presser, they do not know how it started but only 5000 homes evacuated.

#BernardoFire 5200 homes in the county and 300 in the City of San Diego. No structures lost.

No lives lost either. Earlier they were dropping fire retardant on homes too. May the wind die down to nothing tonight and this fire is better contained through the night.

There are fires all over San Diego County now. The biggest new one, with structures burning, is in Carlsbad (Poinsettia x El Camino Real); there's one in Escondido, in Fallbrook, Pala, and in Camp Pendleton.

At 2:19pm: 100 degrees/3-4% relative humidity/winds to 25mph

I'm a San Diego local, the Bernardo Fire that started yesterday is just across the freeway from us. My boyfriend and I have family in Fallbrook,Carlsbad and Oceanside. It's very scary here! Memories of the 2003 fires are flooding back :(
