Fireworks warning

I love professional fireworks displays, but the home use kind has always given me the jitters.

Maybe from the time that my parents caught my otherwise well-behaved and intelligent brother and friend (around 10-12) just in the nick of time as they dipped sparklers in gasoline to see if they'd REALLY spark!

Too many horror stories. Leave them to the pros.
ha! What is it with boys and fireworks? Girls just don't seem to be as interested.

What idiots to fire guns like that and what a random way to be killed.
Its a big day here in OZ as apparently the first baby born today will put our population at the 21 million mark......

Congrats! I surprised any babies are born there. With only 21 million in a country the size of ours, I'm surprised you can find one another to breed.

Indoor plumbing v. outdoor plumbing. Boys are naturally interested in phallic objects that shoot, erupt or explode.

I like to show news video(s) of fireworks accidents to the kids  so they realize what might happen to them should they play with fireworks. I guess I'll have to check this picture out to see if it's something else I can scare the kids with. :D

It,ll scare the kids alright Taximom.....they might never sleep properly again.

Ugh! I'll have to think about showing the kids this. Maybe not right before bed, eh?

Congrats, angelmom, you made me gasp out loud. Doesn't happen too often.

 indeed!

I'm so proud! :blushing:

I wish they would ban all kinds but professional shows here in Fla, especially this year. It's hardly rained at all and we've had lots of brush fires.

Plus, some of our neighbors like to shoot them off all night, which is what they did last year. Every batch set every dog in the neighborhood to barking, including ours.

We finally had to call the cops because the fireworks were landing on my car's roof, which is cloth! Not to mention on top of the roof and everywhere else.

Why is it that the bigger the moron, the louder the fireworks they want? (Famous last redneck words..."Hey y'all! Watch this!")

The family who use to live next door had a huge party on the 4th, he was in the Air Guard, several of his buddies were trained in pyrotectics, so the display would start when it got dark and last several hours. I have never been a fan of fireworks but they seemed to know what they were doing. Early the next morning the man was out walking around neighbors yards collecting any debris that may have strayed. But the neighbor who has them now is a young, stupid, drunk who has no idea what is safe, aims for yards of neighbors, especially those with pools, and they go on until 2am or so. We do have laws but calling the sheriff does no good. Last year I picked up a big bag of fireworks debris, some exploded, some not - and left them on their patio. Those wires could play havoc with lawnmowers. And I wasn't even on his hit list. We have had plenty of rain this year so the fire hazard isn't as bad as other years. My first concern isn't my yard, neighbor pools, or my lawnmower - he has two toddlers!

I showed this picture to my adventurous 11 yr old son. His friend bought some fireworks the other day without his parents knowing at the local beverage store. (Yep. Called the police for selling to minors.)

My son told me that he left when his friend started lighting them because he "didn't want his hand to look like that picture you showed me, Mom." :woohoo:

His friend got in big trouble with his fireman dad too. Whoops.

Thanks again, T-Rex! :blowkiss:
