Shelby Nealy following his Spencer hearing on Tuesday.
In July, a jury recommended that Nealy be put to death for the murders of Richard Ivancic, Laura Ivancic and Nicholas Ivancic after he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated cruelty and first-degree murder.

TAMPA, Fla. — Defense lawyers for the man convicted of killing four people and their dogs argued against the death penalty recommendation in court.
At a hearing on Tuesday, doctors testified saying Shelby Nealy, 32, shows signs of PTSD and traumatic brain injuries due to several previous altercations when he was attacked while he was homeless. They also said the injuries stem from fights he had with his wife, Jamie Ivancic, that caused him to become aggressive over the years.
