BREAKING — A jury recommended that Shelby Nealy be sentenced to death by an 11 to 1 vote.

Shelby Nealy, the man at the center of one of Tampa Bay’s highest-profile murder cases, should be executed by the state of Florida for bludgeoning his wife’s family to death, a jury decided Friday.
During a two-week sentencing trial, jurors learned how Nealy ended a volatile relationship with his second wife by killing her, then murdered her parents and brother a year later in an effort to never be caught.

PINELLAS CO. FLA. — The jury in Shelby Nealy's sentencing trial recommended the death penalty with an 11-1 vote on all three counts.

In 2023, Florida legislation passed that lowered the jury requirement for death sentences from unanimous to a simple majority of 8 out of 12 jurors. Florida currently leads the nation in executions this year.

TAMPA, Fla. — Defense lawyers for the man convicted of killing four people and their dogs argued against the death penalty recommendation in court.
At a hearing on Tuesday, doctors testified saying Shelby Nealy, 32, shows signs of PTSD and traumatic brain injuries due to several previous altercations when he was attacked while he was homeless. They also said the injuries stem from fights he had with his wife, Jamie Ivancic, that caused him to become aggressive over the years.

Nealy is expected to be sentenced by a judge on April 30.
