Sanford Police are called to 1231 Twin Trees Lane in Sanford after 911 calls reporting shots fired.
Police arrive to find a 17 year-old shot and killed. Police say there was a altercation between two males and shots were fired.
Monday, Feb. 27, 2012:
Sanford Police identify the shooting victim as Trayvon Martin. They identify the shooter as George Zimmerman.
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012:
Sanford Police say George Zimmerman was "serving in the role of neighborhood watch" when the shooting happened. Police say Trayvon was visiting friends of the family in Sanford for the week.
Thursday, Mar. 8, 2012:
Trayvon Martin's father, Tracy Martin, holds a press conference in Orlando. Martin is asking Sanford Police to arrest Zimmerman for murder.
Saturday, Mar. 10, 2012:
The family of Trayvon Martin gather at the Sanford Police Department urging police to make an arrest in the case.
Monday, Mar. 12, 2012:
Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee said at a press conference they weren't aware 28-year-old George Zimmerman had a criminal record.
The case is handed over to state prosecutors who will make a decision on if Zimmerman will face charges.
