So you are ok with him standing up, advocating for someone, when he KNOWS they are lying?

I'm not.

ETA: it is a race thing when he only does it for one race against one other one.

I believe Al Sharpton is a civil rights activist.

ZIMMERMAN: What has come out that I can talk about today is that Trayvon Martin somehow snuck up on him, and according to Mr. Crump, their own attorney, he was on -- we don't know if this is verifiable information, but he was on the phone with his girlfriend. I don't know if that's a police source, but I know his attorney at least holds up the girlfriend as a source and says Trayvon told him, no, I'm not running. I'm going to walk real slow.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1203/29/pmt.01.html

"He said this man was watching him," the girl recounted. "So he put his hoodie on, said he lost the man. I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast, I told him to run but he said was not going to run."

http://abcnews.go.com/US/neighborho...ls-racial-slur/story?id=15966309#.T3XhfnrVZDo

I can only imagine what was going through Trayvon's mind...He was just minutes from the house he was staying at and I can understand Trayvon's decision not to run...
He didn't want to escalate the situation.
He didn't want to look vulnerable.
He didn't want to look "stupid"---This is the reason my high-school age son just gave me as to why he didn't run across the parking lot at school to avoid being late before the bell rang. (He now has to serve detention--Grrrrr).

This situation is so sad and tragic. It did not have to end this way if GZ had just done what he was told and trained to do vs. taking matters into his own hands. I feel GZ made a fatal choice and should have to face the consequences.

How does one vet for this, though? Do you ask the people that want to see him get convicted, and hope they're honest?

You vet for this by doing a thorough voir dire. IMO, there is a greater danger of seating a stealth juror who would vote to acquit than a jury bent on prosecting GZ, given the history of animosity toward blacks by LE in that community.

I'm not sure that there is any MSM information that could answer your legitimate question satisfactorily, but under the circumstances I submit the following 'walks like a duck, quacks like a duck' information:

From:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...an-s-history-of-911-calls-a-complete-log.html

Quote:
"36. April 22, 2011 – 7:09 p.m.
Type: TEL
Subject: Suspicious activity
Report: Juvenile black male “apprx 7–9” years old, four feet tall “skinny build short blk hair” last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and blue shorts"

I'm confused by your response.

Was this the description GZ gave in a call?
If so, there is nothing racist about it.
It's a description,

A description of me would go something like this:

Type: TEL
Subject: Suspicious activity
Report: Adult white female “apprx 35 years old, five feet six inches tall “round build short brown hair” last seen wearing an LSU t-shirt and blue jeans.

I'm white. White would be in my description

Am I missing something???

This is not logical. It's like asking why a gay rights activist doesn't protest the killing of a gay person by another gay person, or why a disabled rights activist doesn't protest when a woman is discriminated against.

These are activists. They have their job description. They are concentrating on the things they are fighting for which is an end to racism and discrimination against, and civil rights for, black people.

Their individual tactics are up for debate but the reason they speak out when they do and not at other times, is clear.

Nevertheless, some of these activists do protest or speak out against issues that vary from racism/discrimination against blacks or civil rights:
www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/sharpton-decries-black-on-211997.html
http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20107839,00.html

And I'm tired of all these guys being lumped together. Jackson and Sharpton are as far from the New Black Panther Party or Farrakhan as can be. The former have repeatedly decried violence, riots, etc., yet some persist in wanting to lump them in with the latter. That frustrates me:
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rev-jesse-jackson-denounces-new-black-panther-bounty-on-george-zimmerman/http://www.opposingviews.com/i/politics/heat-turned-arrest-trayvons-killer"

Sharpton has a controversial history < mod snip >.

My 12 year old son has a deeper voice that Zimmerman.

Sorry did you mean to quote me? I'm not sure what your sons or GZs voice tone has to do with calling someone a racial slur?

Disclaimer: I haven't even caught up with the end of the last thread. This post is totally random in its placement. I am simply "bumping" Salem's words as I haven't seen this post bumped in a while (if I missed it, I apologize). This bump is not directed at any post or poster--I'm not a mod nor pretending to be, just "bumping" their words.

From an earlier thread's post, single post found here, snipped briefly for emphasis:

[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7725037&postcount=2"]Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - 17-yo Teen Trayvon Martin Shot to Death by Neighborhood Watch Captain #7[/ame]

When comparing this case to others - try to be sure you are comparing apples to apples. The major complaint in this case, that has caused it to be a case of national importance, is the fact that no one was arrested for the shooting. Comparing it to cases where the perp was arrested is comparing apples to oranges. Those cases don't make national news because LE did their jobs, investigated and arrested someone.

Also, comparing it to cases where there was a trial is comparing apples to oranges - there has not even been an arrest here, so it does not compare to a case that was decided by a jury.

Please try to post responsibly. This is an important discussion, for the entire country. Just pulling things out of thin air, spouting off to fan the flames, and linking to information, pictures, etc. that are clearly not of the parties in this case is just plain inflammatory - we don't need that. This case is emotional enough without looking for ways to make it even more sensational.

Breathe, think about what you are saying and posting. Be sure it is pertinent, linkable if it is not your opinion, and said respectfully. Everybody gets a voice, as long as they post their voice responsibly.

Thank you,

Salem

If this post is no longer relevant, I'm sure a mod will chime in:)

The GF stated she did it went to voicemail. Don't know about the other. The father was given the phone back and he was able to contact the gf.

~Unanswered questions remain
The chain of events both before and after Trayvon's death leave numerous unanswered questions.
Did police retrieve Trayvon's cell phone at the scene of the shooting, and if so, why didn't they didn't use it to try to identify him by calling some of the numbers, one of which would have appeared as a call taking place at the same time as the incident? Why wouldn't they scroll through the contacts, looking for "mom" or "dad"?
That phone hasn't been seen since. The family says police never gave it to them. Trayvon's father located his girlfriend by retrieving his son's call logs online.~

I'm not ok with that regardless who is doing it. I'm just not gonna get drug into the Al thing. He get's people upset and that's how he works. It's feeds the frenzy. I chose not to get caught up in it. Tray's dead. And Al can't change that.

The recorded comments are up to interpretation. I'll give you that TM's skin color prompted GZ to go after him, unless someone has info that the recent crime in that neighborhood was done by white folks (or a combo of both).

You know, I don't think it was ever been said who broke into those condos. For all we know it could have been an ex-roommate, a relative, etc. We don't even know if anyone was caught (maybe one person) in the act of stealing. No proof, just an assumption. How sad? jmo

Too bad it's not working out quite like they had anticipated. Now, they are all turning on each other and it's gonna get ugly.

~jmo~

I disagree. If GZ was even moderately acquainted with the law, he would know that for murder the statute of limitations is not mere months. (I'm pretty sure there are none. IOW, GZ has that hanging over his head for the rest of his life.)

BBM. My question is: What if the bruises didn't have time to form? Does anyone know if bruises can form after death?

A bruise, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruise"]Bruise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame], (linking to Wiki 'cause it sure beats some of the other sources I have & is "readable"!) is simply the leaking of the "inner stuff" of the erythrocytes (RBCs) when the "shell" gets damaged/broken. Think of the refrigerated egg in the egg carton that has a tiny puncture, by the time you want to use it there's little left in the shell but the shell is GLUED to the paper of the carton. The carton is "irritated by the leakage" & HOLDS tight & the fluid is discolored.
So too is the bruising scenario, the leakage irritates the surrounding tissue & more blood components show up to "clean up the leak". (that's why you see color changes over time in a bruise!).
The damage to the RBCs is fast. Cardiac pressure is minimally involved as the cells are already within the body part involved in the hard surface interaction.

Bruises per se (yes, there can be peri-mortem activity but that's another "lecture" :rocker:) do NOT form after death....what does happen is gravity creates lividity (purple-ish color) as the cells are damaged by lack of movement & pressure of a "hard" surface.

Bruising occurs when hard surfaces interact (fist vs skull, fist vs nasal aperture, falling body vs stationary pavement, etc). They can be visible at differing time periods depending upon depth & organ injury, many are observable under regular light sources, others show up under ALS, all exhibit changes under the skin.

BTW: :moo: and my 2 cents worth too! :moo:

To my knowledge, the phone wasn't given back to anyone in Trayvon's family. Trayvon's father was able to get a list of his calls/messages from their cell phone provider which is how he was able to find out about the call between Trayvon and his girlfriend. To my knowledge, the family still does not have Trayvon's phone.

Oh my - this just on MSNBC live

It seems GZ's attorney is now speaking out against RZ (the brother) - he's saying that the brother hasn't spoken to GZ in YEARS and that the comments RZ made about injuries and medical records are not backed up by GZ because RZ has not been in contact with GZ for years.

Oh my - two on the same side now aruging publicly? Really? Dissention in the ranks?

The truth doesn't change. But it seems two people - both GZ supporters can't get their truths right.

hhmmm...........................................

Sorry - no link - I just watched it on MSNBC.

Why is there not outrage over incidents like this? http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-03-04/news/31122324_1_white-boy-fire-tv-station granted the kid didn't die but I don't see this as a major news story. Racism stinks in either direction. Why no public outcry over this?

Nothing is stopping anyone from making a thread about this case you linked? This forum is to discuss Trayvon's case. I am outraged by many, many cases. Especially those in the Crimes Against Children section, but a thread can always be made about a case you want to discuss?

"He prevented his firearm from being taken from him and used against him, and that's called saving your life," he said.
Zimmerman said his brother shot Martin purely in self-defense, after the teenager attacked him last month. "You return force with force and when someone assaults you," he said. "George was out of breath. He was barely conscious. The last thing that he remembers doing is moving his head from the concrete to the grass, so that if he was banged one more time, he wouldn't be wearing diapers for the rest of his life and being spoon-fed by his brother."
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_...described-as-jekyll-and-hyde/?tag=pop;stories

I think the bro contradicts himself a little there because it doesn't sound like TM was reaching for GZ's gun if he was busy banging GZ's head against the sidewalk and because if GZ doesn't remember the shooting how does he know he did it to prevent TM from getting his gun?

I hear GZ say "F!@#$% punks" in that exclamation. I listened to it 30+ times with and without headphones. There's an obvious "p" sound in the start of the second word (imo). I don't believe he said c**n. Sounds like punks to me. JMO.

Doesn't change the outcome. I just don't believe he said what most people believe.

--it does change the outcome according to CNN's legal analyst---if he said it, then it becomes federal. he explains here:

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2012/03/22/did-trayvon-martins-shooter-use-slur-in-911-tapes/
--Did Trayvon Martin's shooter use slur in 911 tapes?
--911 call portion 'cleaned up' highlighting the 2 words.

--the prosecutor is also interested in "those 2 words".

http://bangordailynews.com/2012/03/...-review-911-calls-in-trayvon-martin-shooting/
Florida prosecutor taps experts to review 911 calls in Trayvon Martin shooting

Angela Corey, who was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to investigate the shooting, said the experts will examine two potentially crucial aspects of the eight calls made to 911: a racial epithet Zimmerman might have muttered while talking to a dispatcher minutes before shooting the unarmed 17-year-old, and the screams in the background of calls that residents made to police during the incident.

“The exact words and whose voice is whose will be the critical issues,” Corey said in an interview.

IANAL, JMO, OMO, and :moo:

True about the statute, but months is a long time for proper investigation to have not been done. If evidence was mishandled, went uncollected or was ignored, it is impossible to backtrack and properly gather it now. I think that is what the poster was referring to. The lag between event and full investigation.

That lag may have had a guilty GZ feeling as if, he had gotten away with his actions and no consequence could be visited open him at this point.

At least that was how I took the post you were responding to.

That didn't answer my question.
I asked if its ok to advocate for someone you know is lying.

Everybody has civil rights correct? Even white people?
