Florida Girl, 8, Suffers Facial Injuries in Dog Attack Outside Apartment After Returning Home from School

An 8-year-old girl was badly injured in a dog attack outside her home in Hollywood, Fla., on Oct. 24. The child was hospitalized after suffering facial injuries during the incident, and the girl's mother claimed it wasn't the first time the dog, which belongs to a neighbor, had attacked.

The girl’s mother, Keyrelly Jean Castro, told the outlet that she had just picked up her daughter, who is autistic, from school, and as the child ran towards their apartment door, their neighbor’s dog approached and bit her.

Jean Castro said it was not the first time the pit bull was aggressive. She showed CBS News Miami a video taken last month which showed the dog almost attacking her and her older daughter while they were moving furniture.

She also pointed out that although the dog was leashed, there was enough slack for it to run across the courtyard.

The owner said the five-year-old pit bull was protective but not typically aggressive and that it had met the little girl and her mother before without incident.

Autism is a factor because by nature an autistic child doesn’t recognize the signs of danger. Plus she may have approached quickly catching the dog by surprise.

They need to remove the dog from the premises. Entirely too unpredictable even if normally friendly.
