The sabotage involved gluing a piece of Styrofoam inside the nose of the aircraft that effectively disabled a component pilots depend on to gauge such things as airspeed, the pitch of the plane, and so forth.

According to the complaint affidavit, Alani glued the foam inside the tube leading from outside the American Airlines plane to its air data module, a system that reports aircraft speed, pitch and other critical flight data. As a result, if the plane had taken off that day from MIA, the pilots would have had to operate the aircraft manually because the ADM system would not have received any computer data.

I am not going to minimise his despicable actions and say what he did to the engine was no big deal. It was a big deal. NO ONE has the right to tamper with the engine of an airliner, so they can make a few more overtime dollars.

That is disgusting greedy selfish behaviour, IF that is even the real motive.

Boeing 737 Max is a perfect example of what you are outraged about, and involve same air speed and nose angle sensor. Boeing actually blamed the muslim pilots until some christian pilots spoke of their experience.

Turns out that Boeing knew typical pilots will not be able to control the plane manually under many scenarios, but they wanted to make billions of dollars.

Hundreds of people died in just the first two accidents. No one will be charged.

By the way, the excerpt below explains why the prosecutors will be able to get this mechanic a long sentence:

As you explained, most pilots do not know how to fly these big airliners by hand. And if a pilot had taken off, and didnt have the benefit of the data needed to keep it balanced and at right levels, it would immediately crash.

His sabotage would have taken away that data and required the inexperienced pilots to fly blind, without necessary data about speed and elevation.

If this man is so experienced and intelligent, why would he tamper with an airliner, and let a pilot begin the flight procedure? Does he have any common sense?

And yes, there is some prejudice about him being an airline mechanic. I have some prejudice , which I realised I had when I read an article linked above. This long time mechanic was making 8k a month, but he still felt the need to do something that could endanger hundreds of innocents, just to make a bit more that month. That angers me greatly.

On top of that, I read that he 'spoke halting English' and needed a translator. He has been an airline mechanic here for 30 years, and he doesn't speak fluently? How can we work on our airliners without knowing and understanding the English language? So yes, I feel some prejudice that this immigrant has been here 30 years, but is not assimilating by learning the language. That makes me even more suspicious about his motives.

9/11 left it's mark on me. When I read about this mechanic, having ISIS related propaganda on his phone, and speaking about his wishes that " Allah would use “divine powers” to harm non-Muslims", I felt anger. How can he be working on our airliners if he has these types of feelings?

His excuses about contract negotiations are ridiculous. No one tampers with an airline engine, and then just watches it roll down the runway, over a contract dispute. It is much bigger than overtime pay, in my opinion. JMO

Yes, they are only allegations. Things will be revealed during his trial.

As for an ISIS sympathiser 'not downloading just one video' ----we don't know this is the only one he has ever downloaded. But it may be the only one they found so far.

But just the fact that they found one---is quite revealing. JMO

As for his not getting out of town---he didn't need to, because he had his back up plan in place. He just needed to give them his explanation---it was a simple contract dispute---no big deal.

Besides, he planned to do the repairs during the overtime work. He probably planned to fix the problem without anyone else seeing the plastic piece he glued inside the tube.

I knew instantly when first hearing about this happening there was much more to the story than first suspected. So I'm not the least bit surprised, but very thankful he was another one who was found out, and exposed for what he is BEFORE he destroyed more lives..

If that comment is saying I am being judgmental, I will totally agree;. I am being judgmental.

However, if someone wilfully tampers with an airliner, to the degree that it could fall from the sky after takeoff, there he is setting himself up for judgement by others.

And his defence is that he is a good guy that just made a mistake, in trying to get some extra overtime pay. And that leaves us all to decide for ourselves if that is the true motive behind this incident.

And given what we know so far, it doesn't ring true for me. He does not appear to me, to be a 'good American' that just made a mistake.

My grandparents were immigrants and learned English as soon as possible, so they could take part in their American dream. They loved their country of origin forever but they did assimilate and become part of our culture as well.

I don't see this mechanic making that attempt. In my opinion, he seems to be anti-western in his beliefs. And given the access he has to our airliners, that is a big problem.

I would think, given his job, and given the tragic past history of 9/11. he would have made an effort to show that he has no connection to ISIS or Jihadi beliefs. But that is not the case.

So I have no problem expressing my negativity towards this mechanic. None at all.

A soldier from Fort Riley was charged with terrorism yesterday, after he taught others how to make vehicle bombs. He wanted to blow up CNN and kill prominent Democrats. He was recruiting others to do similar acts.

His maximum possible sentence ... 20 years. But he will get far less, based on other cases of English speaking Christian US citizens, actually charged with terrorism, who were not quickly acquitted.
