Florida man gets 30 years in prison for killing 3-year-old girl from Kansas

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (KAKE) - The Florida man who killed a 3-year-old girl from Kansas nearly four years ago has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Cory Hagwell pleaded no contest to aggravated manslaughter of a child and other charges in connection to the death of Adelynn Merrell, according to video of court proceedings. He was sentenced this week.

Destinee Merrell sentenced for covering up 3-year-old daughter's death

CRESTVIEW — A Crestview woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in the death of her 3-year-old daughter, who was found dead in the woods with a fatal head injury four years ago.

Destinee Merrell pleaded guilty Tuesday to accessory after the fact to a first-degree felony and two counts of child neglect, according to a news release from the State Attorney's Office.

Merrell, following her plea Tuesday, was sentenced to a decade in prison on the accessory charge and two concurrent five-year sentences on the child neglect charges. She received credit for the time she has been incarcerated since her arrest in 2017, meaning she has about six more years on her sentence.
