During a Sunday afternoon press conference, Sheriff Judd Grady announced the deaths after the victims’ mother, 43-year-old Brandy Hutchins, failed to return her son to his father during what was supposed to be a custody exchange at a Florida police station.

Earlier last week, a Polk County judge ordered Hutchins to turn over custody of her son, Aiden Hutchins, 10, to his father by Friday evening. Instead of obeying the ruling, Hutchins kept her son inside a mobile home in Waverly, in the Lake Wales neighborhood.

At around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Police found Hutchins and the two victims inside home, dead from gunshot wounds. The teen daughter has not yet been publicly identified but police said she and Aiden had a different father.

Brandy Hutchins of Lake Wales lost a ruling that had brought her former spouse here from his relocated home in Maine. She was ordered to turn over custody by 6:00 pm Friday. Instead she fled.

Hutchins had apparently chosen to hide in a mobile home in the Waverly neighborhood in Lake Wales, accompanied by her 19-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, Aiden. Law enforcement was asked to assist in locating her. They found the trio dead of gunshot wounds.

A weekend social media post sought information from the public. A tip lead law enforcement to find the three dead of gunshot wounds on Sunday.

A Florida mom with no criminal record has shot dead her two children before turning the gun on herself, cops have said.

Brandy Hutchins, 43, is believed to have killed her son Aiden Hutchins, 10, and daughter Hannah Griner, 19, inside a trailer in the tiny town of Waverly on Sunday.

Polk County Sheriff's Office said her children had different fathers, and Hutchins, who worked in insurance, had just lost custody of Aiden to her ex-husband.

The 10-year-old was due to go live with his father in Maine, and Hutchins had been ordered to hand him over at Polk County police station by 6pm on Friday.

But Hutchins failed to relinquish Aiden to officers, and a frantic search for him ensued over the weekend - eventually leading police to a mobile home in Waverly, central Florida.

The boy’s father has identified him online as Aiden Hutchins.

Last Thursday, the ex-husband came down from Maine to court because his ex-wife didn’t turn over custody of Aiden. Brandy Hutchins was ordered by a judge to hand over custody by 6 p.m. on Friday, Judd said.

Late Friday night, the sheriff said, investigators learned the court order was not complied with, and detectives worked over the weekend to find the 10-year-old boy so his father could take him back to the state of Maine.

A Florida woman killed her 10-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter before shooting herself in a “double murder-suicide” incident, authorities are saying.

Sheriff Grady Judd identified the mother as Brandy Hutchins, 43, who was found dead with her two children on Sunday morning in Waverly, Fla., following what authorities say was a custody battle with the her son's father.

The daughter has been identified as Hannah Griner and the son was Aiden Hutchins, according to Facebook posts shared by friends and family.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Sunday that the incident began as a “domestic event” and custody battle, eventually culminating in the murders.

On Monday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office told PEOPLE that Brandy, Aiden and Griner were all listed to be at the same address, although that is not the location where they were found.

"I can't imagine a more horrific set of circumstances," Judd said. "My heart breaks for all the family, who are devastated for this beautiful 10-year-old child all because mom did not want to turn the child over to the rightful father pursuant to a court order."

Judd noted Hutchins had no criminal history, saying there was no indentation there should have been violence.

"There is a lot of investigation to still occur. We are heartbroken and devastated over this horrible event," Judd said.

I'm thinking there has to be a reason the court sided with the father.
Many time the mother will be favored, at least in the past ?

And why did she take the daughter's life, the young lady was 19 and not part of the custody battle !
Awful, nauseating 'mother'. How can anyone take their own children's lives ?
Rest in gentle peace, Hannah and Aiden.

These murderers make me furious. Just go somewhere and take your own life and leave the innocents alone.

Aiden Hutchins, Brandy Hutchins

A Florida mom murdered her 10-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter inside a mobile home over the weekend, days after a judge ordered her to turn over custody of the boy to his father.

Rather than doing as she was ordered in court, Brandy Hutchins ignored the Friday evening deadline, committed the murders, and then took her own life in a suspected double murder-suicide that Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd called “absolutely devastating for everyone,” including his deputies who responded to the tragic scene.

Judd spoke at press conference Sunday about the case that “started as a domestic event,” with an ex-husband and ex-wife battling over child custody of the 10-year-old son they shared.

“We’re devastated for this beautiful 10-year-old child, all because mom did not want to turn the child over to the rightful father pursuant to a court order,” the sheriff added.

Aiden’s father posted Sunday afternoon that “t is with a heavy heart that I am writing this to give everyone an update about my son Aiden Hutchins who was missing and taken by his mother on August 25 2023 who decided to murder him.”

“[H]e was killed by her today August 27 2023. he will forever be in my heart and did not deserve this. Rest in peace my sweet boy I will see you again. I love you,” he said.

As of Monday morning, the 19-year-old victim had not been identified, but the sheriff did say she had a different father.

Judd said that although there was a custody battle, there weren’t red flags that violence might occur, including no criminal history or mental health holds (“no history of Baker Acts,” as the sheriff put it.)

“There was no indication that there should be any violence, but it was violent,” Judd said.
“This was a domestic event, a court-ordered event, where she had to turn custody over to the ex-husband and she wasn’t going to do that, so she murdered the 10-year-old. The 19-year-old daughter was there and [she] murdered her as well.”

I am betting the 19 year old tried to prevent this and lost her life trying. Either that or her mom justified things in her own head because as with family annihilators, they couldn't possible survive without mommy dearest so if I kill myself I better take them with. Mommy knows best after all
