Gosh, how horrible! I actually feel sorta bad for him, but mad too. I wish more people took more care in how they handle their animals. He should be a lesson for everyone, he didn't and look what happened.

Though my doggies are always kept away from others I have had to be hyper vigilante with one as he's a 'teenager' and can get a bit aggressive with people he doesn't know. I never open my door if he is not put up in another room or out on his exercise line. Just too risky.

I have no idea how I'd live with myself if Bogart hurt someone, much less killed someone. Just sad all the way around.

My SIL used to have a Rottweiler (sp) and he was very agressive, even as a puppy. Whenever we would go to visit, she'd have to tie him up in the back yard. On accassion she would babysit my three daughters when they were much younger. If the dog was loose in the back yard he would literally throw his body up agaist the sliding glass door to try to get the kids. She finally put him down out of fear that he would do actually hurt them or somebody else.

Freeman, 70, was convicted of culpable negligence manslaughter in April.

Prosecutors said the death wasn't a surprise for area residents, who testified that Freeman's dogs were violent.''They threatened the neighbors. They bit the neighbors,'' said Assistant State Attorney Sarah Ritterhoff Williams. "The defendant knew it was happening and, during the trial, the defendant blamed everyone else.''
