We Are the Essentials page:

Our story began over 25 years ago when we started our careers in law enforcement and the United States military. Each of us wants to make our community and our country a better and safer place to live. Our law enforcement members were trained to investigate, protect, interview, and arrest. Our military operators were trained in surveillance, intelligence gathering, and recovery operations.

first page:

We are not known by our faces nor our names; we are known as a group of former law enforcement officers and former military service members who are now search and recovery investigators and consultants. "We are The Essentials”.

In our previous careers, we investigated a vast number of federal and state crimes, protected US and foreign diplomats, worked undercover rescuing human trafficking victims, worked counter-terrorism cases, and apprehended violent criminals and gang members. Now retired we continue to use our skills to investigate and recover missing people.

We do not seek fame or fortune. Instead, we come together utilizing our skills to bring closure to families needing assistance finding their loved ones. In these cases, we have self-funded the investigations thus far but are now an official 501c3 in the name of “We Are The Essentials For The Missing” . To offset the cost of the investigations, we accept donations and rewards on cases we solve.

They have really exploded onto the scene here in Florida and become an asset to LE in missing person cases. I think one of things that I appreciate the most is that they are a 501(c)3. No shady stuff like with some other groups.

So happy that she was found safe and hope she gets the help she needs. She is very loved!

SO ELATED at this good news - hope she and her loved ones get the help and comfort they need to help Anu feel safe and loved.

O/T - 501(c)(3)s can and do pull plenty of shady stuff... always be cautious and do your homework first! Not for profit does not mean they don't make money - just means the money should go back into the business. And not enough agencies audit 501(c)(3)s like they should IMO.

Absolutely! It’s just a lot easier to prove when a charity is defrauding people vs a business that tries to make people believe it is a charity.

It's a little disheartening to learn that she was in woods not very far from where she was last seen for 6 days. It makes me feel like local law enforcement didn't put much effort into trying to find her.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Nearly a week after Anu Awasthi disappeared, volunteers found her while searching a wooded spot bordering the Tampa Road area where she was last seen.

"Probably the happiest moment of my life — no doubt," said Awasthi's son, Rohan Awasthi.

Elaborating on how the group found Awasthi, Tucson told Fox News that when they found that she had visited the CVS, they resumed their search in the area. “We had been searching around, and we found a CVS bag, and we knew she had been in CVS seven days ago, so we started doing a converged grid search, then about 20 minutes after that, we started hearing some whimpering,” he said. So the volunteers “started moving toward that sound, started to yell her name, that whimpering got louder, almost to a cry, I called out for my colleagues here, they were able to call 911 and follow my voice, and the next thing we know, we have Anu.”

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — It was nothing short of a miracle. A Tampa mother was missing for nearly a week before she was found alive during the height of the August heat wave.

Anu Awasthi’s husband told News Channel 8 he wants to help the group of retired law enforcement officers that saved her life.

“We are so glad that Nico found her, and the whole team found her right in the nick of time,” Vikas Awasthi said.

In a show of gratitude, Awasthi has set up a fundraiser in support of We Are the Essentials. His family will match up to $20,000 in donations.

*******
Now, Anu’s loved ones are focused on helping the next family in need.

“We need to do more to make sure that anybody who is faced with the same problem that I was is able to find them quickly,” Vikas Awasthi said.

Anu remains hospitalized. She has almost fully recovered physically, her husband said, but the healing from the six days of disappearance continues.

Vikas visits his wife every day. He said he is hopeful she’ll be able to leave the hospital soon.
