8-month-old dead after Florida man accused of leaving baby unattended to buy alcohol
Spencer Wyatt Hause, 22, of Marcia Lane in Mary Esther, was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail on Tuesday morning. As of Friday, he was being held without bond while awaiting a hearing in the April 15 death of young Aspen Hause.
The report said Hause had left his home sometime between 10 and 10:30 a.m. to go to a nearby store to buy alcohol, reportedly leaving the child alone on a queen-size bed.
Outlining the reasons for the child neglect charge, the report contends that Hause's "gross and flagrant actions created a substantial risk of harm ... which he must have known or should have reasonably known would have likely caused death or great bodily harm to his daughter."
"During the interview, the defendant presented a story; however, at the end of his post-Miranda interview (after his rights were read to him), he stated, 'Your (sic) right, I need to own up before it goes too far. ... Before you track down stuff, I want a lawyer present,'" the report stated.
