There's not really much to hold on to. Once it capsizes, the rail and edges are underwater. I'm guessing maybe about the upper 2-3' of the boat would be submerged. Unless you can get up on the hull (which would be pretty difficult, I would imagine) there's not much at all to hold on to. Maybe the bowline, if it's loose on deck when you go over...

This is not the boat found today, I just googled the pic to show what I mean.

Prayers to boys and their families. This must be horrifying for the whole community. Sorry I haven't read back through all the pages, but is the Coast Guard or some other agency able to map the currents to try to pinpoint where they might be? To clarify, I mean map it for the particular day they went missing, taking into consideration wind speed and weather, etc.

I am going to be in the Myrtle Beach area tomorrow. Does anybody know some particular area that would be good to post flyers? I'm thinking about someplace boaters and fishermen would be likely to see them before setting out to sea.

Claire, try Murrells Inlet or Little River. Any marina there would probably be happy to help. Lots and lots of charters out of both.

Normally you are taught if a boat capsizes to stay with it. Better odds of being rescued, or at least found. Someone suggested on the FB page that the shoreline in that area can appear deceiving close and the boys could have attempted to swim to it as the boat was washed away. [emoji53] I really hope they find these boys.

I'm so scared for them...

In random "around town" chatter I've heard that possibly only one life jacket was missing from the boat. Again, not sure of the veracity.
In the article I posted a few pages back the coast guard said one was found in the boat. The parents said they were not sure if any other life jackets had even been on the boat or if the boys would have been wearing them.

Or maybe they were not able to stay close to it because of the stormy weather? The boat tossing around or drifting away faster than they could keep up?

A few of you have mentioned them checking the weather before the set out, but on the coast thunderstorms pop up without warning and can be very strong. Without a gps there is really no way to know unless you see it coming towards you. They can be quick and move on through in 15 minutes and the sun is shining again. So it may very well have been a beautiful day with pop up thunderstorms. Prayers for the boys and the families!

Sad to hear that the parents did not even know whether there were lifejackets on the boat.

So it's reported that Joe Namath put up the $100,000 reward money. This seems odd to me, just for him to get some publicity? IMO, funds would be a lot better spent putting it toward searches......like I believe they have one going on where someone has offered their plane to fly over the area, charging only $40 an hour for fuel. It would be different, at least to me, if the scenario was different and there was a possibility that the boys met with foul play or were abducted...but seems pretty clear that's not the case. I understand he's a neighbor to one of the boys' family but it just seems like such a 'flashy' gesture and a strange one given they were lost at sea. Just weird to me.

I think it's a brilliant ploy to get as many people on the water and in the air as possible to try and find these young men. Fuel for boats and planes is very expensive, so I guess it's just a huge incentive. Just my opinion.

Uh, no need to shout, I already acknowledged my awareness of him being a neighbor. It doesn't change the fact, to me, that it's unusual for someone to offer a large reward to help find individuals who there is no reason to believe they are missing due to foul play/abduction. Websleuths is sadly full of posts about missing people....people lost near lakes, rivers, on oceans, cruiseships, in the woods, etc............and this is the first I've read of a substantial reward being offered. Again, IMO, a large sum like that would make more sense putting it to use in hiring planes, drones, searchers with boats and whatever other resources/manpower to search. It's already been reported that the coast guard doesn't want a bunch of extra boat traffic, particularly in riskier areas where they are at risk of getting into trouble. I would think that those in that local area and those in the boating community are doing all that they can to find these boys as soon as possible and they don't need the lure of $100,000 to motivate them to find them.

That 100 grand could help!

He has the money!

Sorry I yelled but leave the guy alone. He is trying to help!

$100,000.00 can get a lot of boats in the water!
A lot of planes in the sky.
