“Rhonda drove to another residence in south Macclenny where she was going to babysit other children as well,” they wrote. “Rhonda arrived and went into the residence, leaving the infant in the vehicle. It wasn’t until the mother of the infant arrived around 1:00 PM to pick up the infant that Rhonda realized the infant was left in the vehicle.”

The internal temperature of the car reached more than 133 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime. Temperatures outside were 98 degrees, authorities said.

Deputies claim Jewell left the child in the vehicle for at least five hours.

The baby was taken to Fraser Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead, deputies said.

Medical staff found the baby’s internal temperature to be 110 degrees Fahrenheit, which was the highest that the thermometer could measure. The girl’s external temperature was 102.1 degrees Fahrenheit, they said.

Horrible....the mother of the 10-month-old that died in the car, Brooke Paige, is sobbing on the stand.

This case is so heartbreaking for ALL. Watched RJ on the stand today and RJ was texting with both Brooke and Brooke's Sister, Nevaeh, that morning. All the while (and it confuses me that it never dawned on RJ) that Brooke's baby was still out in the car. (This is Florida) The high that day was 98 degrees outside. The precious doll, Ariya, was inside the car which reached 133. Medical Examiner said Ariya's body temp was 110 degrees. Appears at 46yo RJ has been babysitting for years and the Defense called upon previous parents (who had RJ watch their children) to testify Out Of The View of the Jury. They all thought RJ was very responsible. After they all gave testimony, the Judge asked them to wait out in the hall. The Defense then asked the Judge if the Jury could witness those Parents testify. Judge ruled against the Jury hearing those parents testify. Still how in those 5 hours that the baby was left in the car did RJ not think of Ariya once. RJ told of Brooke coming at around 1pm to pick up Ariya and being confused why Brooke was there. Then it dawned on RJ that Ariya was still in the car.

@LawCrimeNetwork

The trial against Rhonda Jewell started this week. She is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child after a baby in her care was left inside a car for five hours in the Florida heat. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber @jessecordweber has the latest.

Wow. Not sure how I feel about this. I watched the trial intermittently and didn’t have the opinion she was criminally negligent. She forgot the baby but it wasn’t intentional. 17 years sentence is insane. Imo

She probably won't actually serve that many years, IMO.
