OMG...Escobedo was the leader? I feel so bad for his family...they were just innocent bystanders.

FORT PIERCE — Jose Luis Escobedo and his brother, a fugitive living in Mexico, ran one of the biggest cocaine rings "not only in Florida, but the eastern United States."
Two men who shot and killed Escobedo, 28, his wife, Yessica, 25, and their sons, Luis Damien, 4, and Luis Julian, 3, last October on Florida's Turnpike were part of the organization and "killed their leader."
Sheriff Ken Mascara revealed these and other details about the slayings Thursday, a day after a new federal indictment in the case was made public.
Ricardo Sanchez and Daniel Troya, both 23, fired more than 20, but less than 50, rounds into the Escobedo family, shooting all of them at close range in various parts of the body.

I am assuming the brother is still alive somewhere in Mexico? Is he the one who escaped from custody? This probably isn't over yet.

How sad for the children. Innocent little babies executed for the sins of their father and mother.

I'm still wondering how and why a landlord would rent to them. From what I recall the community was a nice area.

Two years later, four suspects still await trial in crimes related to Florida's Turnpike killings
It all started two years ago, with a 911 call from a man driving south on Florida's Turnpike through the heart of the Treasure Coast.
The motorist caught a glimpse of something strange on the side of the road. So he stopped his car on the west side of the turnpike in a relatively quiet stretch of the highway in St. Lucie County. He backed up to get a closer view.
And then he realized he was looking at four bodies lying on the ground.
His call at 7:52 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2006, launched the massive, multi-agency investigation into one of the most gruesome killings in the region's history.
Monday marks the second anniversary of the crime — in which a family of four was gunned down — and finds attorneys preparing for a trial some say could be one of the most unusual they've worked on.

I'm glad to hear they caught the murderers. I hope they get their due punishment. To gun down a whole family; especially how the mother was clutching the children.. agh i hope they get the death penalty.

I can't get the link to work, is anyone else having the same problem?

I have never forgotten this family and I'm glad to see some progress in the case. I do feel it is slightly fishy to say Jose and his brother ran the biggest cocaine trafficing ring in Eastern USA! From memory they didn't live a particulary flash lifestyle and if he was was that much of a kingpin surely they would have had more money and better protection, as they would know it was a very risky lifestyle??

Four defendants in 2006 turnpike killings found guilty on all counts

WEST PALM BEACH — After a six-week trial and four days of deliberations, the jury in the 2006 Florida’s Turnpike homicides Thursday returned guilty verdicts on all charges against the four defendants.
Seated next to her mother in court, Rita Escobedo Flores sobbed openly upon hearing the word “guilty” repeated over and over as the nearly two dozen verdicts were announced against the two men who murdered her brother, Jose “Lou” Escobedo, 28, his wife Yessica, 25, and their 4- and 3-year-old sons, Luis Damian and Luis Julian

This guy should be careful what he wishes for. Who knows? They may sentence him to TWO life sentences. Too bad he can't get the same penalty his hitmen did.
