Bonnie Lee Dages and her son Jeremy Lee Dages haven't been seen since they left the Lithia home where they were staying on April 28, 1993.

Dages' mother, Linda Hershberger is representing her daughter and grandson on Friday for the Florida Missing Children's Day ceremony in Tallahassee.

Dages and her son left their home for the intersection of Lithia Pinecrest and Lumsden Roads, where a Kash 'N Karry used to sit.

Dages was supposed to be meeting her boyfriend, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says.

Two days later, deputies found the van she was driving still sitting in the Kash 'N Karry's parking lot. The mother and son haven't been seen since.

Hershberger is speaking about the case in the hope that someone with information will come forward and finally end more than two decades of questions.

On April 28, 1993, 18-year-old Bonnie Dages and her 4-month-old son Jeremy left their home in Lithia with plans to meet Bonnie’s boyfriend at Kash ‘N Karry on the corner of Lithia Pinecrest and Lumsden Roads.

Two days later, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office found the van she was driving still sitting in the parking lot of the Kash ‘N Karry.

That was the last night anyone reported seeing Bonnie and her son.

“Almost 27 years later, we still don’t know where Bonnie and Jeremy are, or what happened to them,” Linda Hershberger said. “We knew Bonnie as a happy, laughing young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. She had recently graduated from high school. She was a loving, caring mother.”

Details of Disappearance
Bonnie drove her van to a shopping center the intersection of Lumsden and Lithia Pinecrest in Brandon, Florida on April 28, 1993 at approximately 9:00 p.m. She brought her infant son, Jeremy, for a shopping trip, and also to meet an unidentified individual.

Bonnie's silver 1986 Dodge Caravan was discovered abandoned in the center's parking lot on Lithia Street and Pinecrest Street later in the evening. The van was locked and Bonnie's purse, which contained $75 in cash, was inside the vehicle. Jeremy's diaper bag was also there, but the baby's car seat was gone. Neither of them have been seen again.

Bonnie withdrew $15,075 from her bank account days before she vanished. She gave it to a man who lives near her parents' home, whom they suspect was involved in her disappearance. He has not been charged or publicly identified.

Bonnie had inherited a large sum of money, possibly as much as $50,000, from her grandparents; the majority of the money is still in her account. She worked as a nanny at the time of her disappearance and dreamed of running a horse farm.

Foul play is suspected in Bonnie and Jeremy's cases. They resided in Lithia, Florida in 1993. Bonnie's mother had them declared legally dead in 1999. Their cases are unsolved.

On Tuesday, Hershberger and other family members stood in front of a row of news cameras and pleaded for help from the public to help solve the mystery.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small or unimportant it seems, might make a difference,” Hershberger said at a news conference at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Ybor City. “Each new piece of information leads to knowledge, and knowledge will lead us to answers.”

“We’ve accepted a long time that something really bad probably happened to her, but we still don’t know," said Dages’ sister, Nancy Richardson, her voice breaking. "She might still be out there, and how do you quit until you know?”

On Friday, Hershberger and other family members will travel to Tallahassee for the annual Florida Missing Children’s Day ceremony. Hershberger has attended once before. She said it helps to be around people who know what her family has endured, but there is also a collective ache.

“There are so many children that are missing,” Hershberger said. "Just like Bonnie, they’re there one day and they’re just gone. It just breaks your heart knowing how much heartbreak there is out there.”

BRANDON, Fla. — Bonnie Lee Dages and her 4-month-old son Jeremy disappeared in April of 1993.

The 18-year-old had just graduated from high school. She took a job as a nanny in Lithia. And she was raising her son as single mother.

For nearly three decades, her mother Linda Hershberger has searched for them.

“I don’t think I can explain,” Hershberger said. “It’s always a part of your existence. You’re always looking and always waiting to hear something you’re always hoping someone will turn up with an answer. Even if it’s a death bed confession. We just want to know what happened.”

Bumping. Last night one of the local news channels aired a brief segment about Bonnie and her son, and it was the first time I’d ever heard of the case. The fact that she was “loaning” large sums of cash to an older man, sometimes referred to as her “boyfriend”, makes my stomach turn. It sounds like a predatory man saw a vulnerable young woman with money and decided to take advantage of her. What a coincidence that she just happens to vanish into thin air after heading to meet him. It’s disturbing that law enforcement has a good idea about who’s responsible but can’t prove it. Cases like this are so infuriating. Bonnie and her son deserve better. I’m glad her mother hasn’t given up searching for her or sharing her story.
