A 9-year-old boy was arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly stabbing his 5-year-old sister multiple times.

Investigators said the boy told them he first thought about killing his sister two days earlier.

Joseph was located by officers hiding in a nearby maintenance shed a short time later. The victim was alert and able to communicate and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Units are currently on scene at Berkeley Point Apartments working a stabbing investigation involving juveniles. The juvenile suspect is in custody and juvenile victim has been air lifted to a nearby hospital. The scene is currently blocked off and secured as Major Crimes Detectives continue to process and interview. More updates will follow.

The boy was playing in his room with his sister. Their mother was home at the time, but she stepped outside to check the mail and get the children some candy from a neighbor.

When she returned to their apartment, she found the boy repeatedly stabbing his younger sister. The boy was saying, “Die, die.”

The mother took the knife away from her son and called 911.

The boy told officers he wanted to kill his sister. He said the thought entered his head two days ago, and he couldn’t stop thinking about it.

When police asked him why, he said he “wanted to be able to go outside.”

The boy was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder.

I hope this little girl recovers. She must have been so confused and scared. My brain cannot make the leap from "wanting to go outside" and stabbing someone. Did the boy think his sister was the reason he was not allowed outside? There had to be more to it than that, I think anyway. How bizarre.

What 9 year thinks about killing his sister for two days? I can’t imagine...

Did the mother say he couldn’t go outside because he had to watch/play inside with his sister? What happened?

My guess is he was 'forced' to babysit or play with her often, and it may have been exacerbated if he was also made responsible for her ie being punished for things she did wrong. My goal is not to blame mom, just offer some possible triggers for homicidal resentment. We also don't know if he is on the spectrum or suffers from abuse or other disorders. It will be interesting to learn more about what is going on here. I'm so relieved the little girl survived!

He told cops he grabbed a knife from the kitchen, entered the bedroom, grabbed his sister by the neck while she was bent over and began attacking her, the station reported.
He is being held in secured detention ahead of a psychiatric evaluation ordered by a Marion County circuit judge Monday.

A public defender has been appointed to represent the boy, who is set to reappear in court Feb. 5.

He went into another room to get the knife -- yep, that's 1st degree murder. Nine years old.
There's gotta be more to this situation -- to state the obvious.

Positive thoughts and prayers for this little girl -- and for her mom who is probably blaming herself for leaving the house, even for what was probably a few minutes.

The Associated Press reported that the girl was “alert and responsive” when she was air-lifted to the hospital.

“It was just a really disturbing scene,” an Ocala Police spokesperson told WOFL.

On Tuesday, a judge ordered that the boy receive a psychiatric evaluation, according to WOFL, and his next court appearance is on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Definitely a step in the right direction. I wonder if this boy has exhibited emotional, social or behavioral problems in the past. If he has a good doctor, consistent therapies and possibly a cocktail of the right meds, he could live a normal life. He's only 9 and it makes me wonder how much violence he was a witness to. Such a sad situation. Hope his sister recovers well.

Wow. Attempted 1st degree murder charge. I hope this kid gets the help he needs. I cannot fathom how a 9 year old is that angry, that disconnected with reality or imagine what is going on in his head.

OCALA, Fla. (AP) - A 9-year-old boy has been charged with trying to kill his 5-year-old sister by stabbing her with a kitchen knife in their Florida apartment.

The boy was charged with attempted first-degree murder on Tuesday and appeared before a judge on Wednesday in the central city of Ocala.
