So, I am curious if LE saw the texts in question or if they took moms word for it. Did he actually text THAT exact thing or did mom just say he did thinking LE would take it seriously if he was abducted vs if he ran away. Surely, LE would verify before putting info like that out, but it was something that came to mind as it seems odd a 17-year-old would make up a crazy story if they just intended to run away, seems way more attention would hit if the vehicle was abandoned with doors open and a kid is just missing. Many of us were suspicious of this story just because we've seen/heard things like this before and almost always it's not true. I guess at 17 he really isn't able to think through things either or realize how it would sound/look and that if he was seen on a bike it would blow up the entire story. Now if mom just made that text up to get LE involved ASAP.. I could see that too.

So was there a bullet hole in the truck? IF so did he do that himself? Is he armed? uggh

If as the Sheriff said (as per Brian Entin) that there were no Hispanic males involved, how awful and incendiary of him, especially in our current political climate.

He owes the Hispanic community a sincere apology. What a waste of resources. I’m curious about his planned end game. Ransom or online raising of money? I do hope he gets some mental health care if needed.

Personally, I think his actions were a cry for help. Who knows what was going on in his life, but I'm guessing some real pressure....school, bullying, parental control, girlfriend breakup, whatever. At 17 years old pressures can be devastating to the point of acting out.
I hope Caden has help and support and can get back on his feet.

His mom's FB has a lot of pics of him shooting guns from a fairly young age.

As many of us suspected - but glad he is physically safe. If it is found he made the bullet hole I hope that is added to any charges he has pending for false reporting of a crime. He may indeed need psychological help at this point, and I hope he gets it, but that doens't preclude owning up to what he has done, and the resultant cost and effect on a community. (not to mention his parents).
