Found Safe FL - Caden Speight, 17, was found safe (after falsely reporting kidnapping)

He researched. He purchased escape items. He shot himsself. Obviously planned. He cost LE money and took time away from real cases.

Try this kid as an adult.
That's what I'm curious about, are they trying him as an adult or not? If not, will his parent's be held responsible for any monetary reimbursements?

At the conclusion of our investigation, a warrant was obtained for Speight’s arrest. He was ultimately placed under arrest and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

He certainly made a valiant effort to make it look like he had been kidnapped. Too bad he didn’t think about the ramifications of shooting himself and what would happen next.

It was thought out and put into motion.

No doubt the kid has issues but he’s created a lot of serious issues for himself.

If he thought his life sucked before, it just got a whole lot worse.

MOO

OR.... or... maybe not. Social service work taught me that kids in bad situations sometimes do desperate things to get the help they need. We really don't know much of anything about his personal life except his parents have a farm and he worked on it.

We might question whether there is some racism or bigotry in his sphere since he had no qualms blaming a shooting & kidnapping on Hispanic folks but maybe he's just young, dumb, and thoughtless, and never realized innocent people could be torched for that.

The extent he went through to plan and set the kidnap scene is pretty amazing. According to info in this article, he even drew his own blood and sprayed it near the abandoned truck.

" Deputies said they also found a Gatorade bottle near Speight's abandoned vehicle that contained his blood, according to the affidavit. Authorities said they believe Speight put his own blood in the bottle and sprayed the blood near his abandoned truck, the affidavit states. Among Speight's recent ChatGPT searches were "how to take blood out of myself for medical purposes without it hurting," according to the affidavit."

I do think he should be tried as an adult.

The level of planning is scary!! What if he didn't leave those clues behind (searches, blood in a bottle, etc.). I lean on this being an intelligent kid, even with being caught. My good ess, with a few more years behind him, what could he be capable of? Scary! I do believe some people have mental illness, depression etc, and there are some people who are just bad to the bone. Not enough info to know how to view this kid.

Turns out they charged him as a juvenile and he has pleaded no contest. I don't think he's been sentenced yet.

The Marion County teenager who faked his own kidnapping earlier this year — which led to an Amber Alert being issued — was sentenced to house arrest for the staged kidnapping.

The state attorney's office said the teen, who WESH 2 is not naming because he was not charged as an adult, will spend at least one year under house arrest with an ankle monitor. He is also required to complete 100 hours of community service, a firearms safety course and a counseling program, and he must pay back the Marion County Sheriff's Office for resources wasted.

Caden Speight, the 17-year-old accused of faking his kidnapping in Marion County, was sentenced on Monday after pleading no contest to the charges against him.

Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office officials confirm Speight was sentenced to one year of house arrest with an electronic monitor.

His family was ordered to pay $24,500 in restitution to reimburse the costs associated with the search effort.

Speight will have to perform 100 hours of community service, take a firearm safety class, and receive counseling. His driver’s license will also be suspended.

Thanks, I was just thinking about him today. I wish the would have included mandatory counseling (and maybe they did but cannot report because he is a juvenile) but this kid has some serious issues and the gun part of his crime makes it even worse.

Both of the linked articles say that he has to receive counseling.
